In my opinion, I don't think that there should be an option for that. People may lie and say that they're other people but changed their names, so there should be a way to see their previous names. If anybody wants to avoid people who annoy him/her, then he can simply put them or ignore, and if they don't want to ignore them, remove them and do /silence which won't let anyone who isn't on the person's friend list whisper them.
But that's just my opinion.

Dunno how I feel about name changes, probably because I'm a firm believer in "I started as x and I'm gonna finish as x!" But I guess I can understand where some of you guys are coming from. Younger players getting older, wanting a change, etc. I would imagine a name change would be a hefty amount of fraise, and I highly doubt they'd give 'em out for free.. So yeah, huzzah if they implement it, but I don't think I'd use it.

Also, it will really suck if people will make an alt after using their previous names after that they've created their new names.

Oh, I forget if someone has mentioned this before, but I like when places "protect" your old name for a month, encase you choose to switch back.

i was offered a name change when my ex was harassing me. i wouldnt want him knowing who i was. ignore wasn't working. it's rude that you want people to have their previous names revealed simply for the sake of your convenience.

actually there should be an option. like what haru said, if you're changing your name to conceal yourself then what's the point of showing your old user just for convenience . you can see who the person is by their account details (soulmate, tribe, join date)

also on the forums once this feature is implemented, can you seach a player's old user and get their new one?
ex; if i change my name to "nerdypanda" then you can search "mynerdyways" and still get the same person.

'Rude'..? I said that it's my opinion but there's a good reason for not agreeing for that. Even with that option, it's not like it's so hard to find out who you are, just saying. And as Mynerdyways said, they can find out who you are by looking at your account details: soulmate, join date and which tribe you're in. If they have you on their friendlist and even if you deleted them, your name will still show if you're online (but won't show the room or last logged in) and by that they can see your profile details and be able to know that it is you.

@Mynerdyways: I am also against the idea of not being able to take the old usernames that were changed. People probably wanted a username but it was already taken. But again.. that's just my opinion.

well if the feature (that you could hopefully disable) that says "formerly charbelsa" or something then wouldn't it be confusing if someone else got the name charbelsa if you changed yours??

Yes, it is rude. You want an option that shows your previous username for the mere sake of convenience, not even thinking about the fact people are being harassed and are unable to use their main accounts due to people constantly bothering them for whatever reason. The ignore function only goes so far, and it's easy to have a friend whisper someone.
Username changes have been offered to users to avoid harassment (I know of myself and Fluffyshine, with the difference being Fluff took the up on it), because the changes previously removed users from friends lists.
The only dead giveaway would be soulmates. Everything else would be fair game.
