Because, most of what I've heard, it was because Walt Disney's mother died while moving into a new home with him.

And, if I am not mistaken, Kristoff also seemed to mature pretty well throughout the story.
(given that his entire job was resting on a random teenage-girl, and that he had to endure an insane weather change)

As far as the animating team knows, Elias Disney hated talking about his experience of his mother and used his feelings to depict what I had said in my last post. He felt as if it was his fault, his responsibility, of her death.
He had to go through difficult times because he was very attached to his family and learned from his experiences to become the man that believed everyone goes through a journey from "boy to man" (as said in Son of Man sang by Phil Collins for Tarzan that strictly bases itself around maturing- nobody will hold your hand forever).

I had said before as well- we're talking protagonists of these stories. Last time I checked Kristoff was not the character singing Let it Go or For the First Time in Forever.
He was also raised by a tribe of trolls- he had more of a family in Frozen than the princess and the Queen.

However!
This being said I do believe we're all entitled to our opinions. If you believe W.D Animation Studios' method of removing parents from movies is unnecessary, that's totally up to you. Just wanted to shed a little light on the matter. Have a nice day. :^)
