What's the best anime ever?

I quite dislike long series. Got to like e120 in bleach before having to give up, I just... can't. Long series just drag on forever while the storylines become more and more forced and they start repeating everything so much it becomes simply painful. Even 50 eps is sometimes a stretch.

So...

Elfen Lied tops it for me.

Also enjoyed:
Wolf's Rain
Legend of Legendary Heroes.
Highschool of the Dead
And a bunch I can't remember from the top of my head.

From the slapstick department I really liked Excel Saga.

As for movies, Monoke Hime, Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies. And generally all other Studio Ghibli productions.
