Hey mathematicians, do you mind helping me with some study-prep questions?
I need an explanation, not so much of an answer.

Answer: 350

Answer: 15

Explain how to solve?
Alright.

Here's my personal method for the first one:
First question:
Notes:
Total votes = 1,000

First commercial: The first commercial recieved 25% of the votes.
With calulator:
To work out 25% of 1,000 multiply 1,000 by 0.25.

Without calculator:
Divide it by 10 to find 10%, then halve that to find 5%.
Once that's done multiply the 10% answer (100) by 2 and add the 5%

This then gives you the amount of votes for the first commercial, which is 250.

Second commercial: The second commercial recieved 2/5 of the votes.
With calculator:
To work out 2/5 you could either multiply that by 1,000 or convert it into a percentage.

Without calculator:
To convert it into a percentage, times the numerator and denominator by 2.
This makes it 4/10, i.e. 40%.
To work out 40% times 1,000 by 0.4.
Or find 10% of 1,000 by dividing it by 10 and then multiply that answer by 4.

This makes the amount of votes for the second commercial 400.

To work out the third, I would add the two together (400 + 250) which makes 650.
1,000 - 650 = 350

-------
Method 2:
Covert either into both fractions or percentages.

First commercial = 25%
Second commercial = 2/5

Percentages:
First = 25%
Second = 40% (method of conversion shown in previous method)

25% + 40% = 65%
This tells us the total pecentage of votes for both of those.
100% - 65% = 35%
By subtracting this we can find what's percengtage is left.
35% of 1,000 = 350
Then work out this percentage of 1,000 (method of this shown in previous method)

Fractions:
First = 5/20
Second = 8/20
(to convert I changed the denominator so it was the same for both; the LCM of 4 and 5)

5/20 + 8/20 = 13/20
1,000 x 13/20 = 650*
1,000 - 650

Multiplying a fraction without a calculator:*
My personal method:
Convert the whole number into a fraction.
1,000 = 1,000/1

Then times the numerator of fraction 1 by fraction 2.
1,000 x 13 = 13,000

Multiply the denominator of fraction 1 by fraction 2.
1 x 20 = 20

Which makes: 13,000/20
Then convert that back into a whole number by dividing 13,000 by 20 (numerator by denominator).
13,000 divided by 10 = 1300
1300 divided by 2 = 650
--------
Phew, okay.

This post is long enough already so, one moment, I'm going to edit in a paste bin url with it.

My current math:

Find x and y such that 26x+14y = (26,14) with x as the smallest possible solution to the equation.

(I can do this easy, good luck figuring it out yourself)

...aren't they both 1?
Or is that not a coordinate pair lol

I can't even remember the triangle myself I didn't it so long ago, thought you meant a specific question.

Perhaps see if any Youtube videos have some way to remember it?

Uhm, what's the question?
I'm not sure if these are the ones I did a few years ago, though.
What I can find out is that all of the numbers are multiples of 5, though, if that helps you.

Well the formula is (a+b)^n= a^n + a^n-1 x b + a^n-2 x b^2 ....b^n
So you need the Pascal triangle thingy to know what coefficient(?) to put.
It goes like:
1
1 1
1 2 1
1 3 3 1
1 4 6 4 1

So, like, to go from first row that is 1, to the 2nd
at first you put a 1 at the beginning then add the sum of the 2 following numbers, but since there is only the ''1 ''
it goes 1 1
For the 3rd row, we always put an 1 at the beginning, then, first sum is 1+2 =3, 2nd is 2+1=3,last is 1
so... 1 3 3 1
For the 4th,
1 at beginning, 1st sum 1+3=4, 2nd sum 3+3=6, 3rd sum 3+1=4, last 1
so 1 4 6 4 1
And so on..I doubt I've explained this well, but o well, I tried. :P

Not sure if this is the right one, just giving it a thought, which I repeat, might be wrong. :P
Since you can see that from 1 to 2, you only add the number 2 to the result of the first...and from 3 to 2, you add the 3 to the result of the 2nd and so on, I guess 5 would be 5 and the result of the 4th, so 5=54325

Lemme mess with you a little, can I? :D
I've solved both of those exercises some time ago, but I haven't got the chance to check if I did them right yet.

1. Given is an equation with variable x:
http://i.imgur.com/j3a14uo.png
For which values of alpha has this equation 2 real different roots with the same signs?

2. Given is a set of triangles with common vertex in A=(0,6). Sides of those triangles opposite to the vertex A are contained in a straight line described by an equation: y + 2 = 0 and each of them has length of 4. Find equation of a curve that contains centers of circles described on those triangles.

Edit: made a mistake in 1, sorry

Ah easy.

It is 54325. Because they add 5 at the end of every number, and before the 5 at the end, it is going backwards from 3 or 4 or 5! Get it?
