I think it's fairly rational for some gamers to have a reverence for Nintendo. Because the video game industry is forever in their debt.

Whatever has happened at this one E3 conference, it doesn't change the fact that gamers should forever be grateful to Nintendo because they saved the gaming industry and made it what it is today. They've done than more for gaming than all other companies combined. There was the video game crash of 1983, where home video games were completed dead. Nintendo revived them with the NES and maintained enthusiasm for video games to this day, whereas other companies have come and gone, like Atari.

I'm not a fan of loving something even when it's a shadow of what it used to be. What matters is now, and right now Nintendo is just sad.

That simply isn't true. The Nintendo Wii was the best selling console of its generation and the Wii U is selling just as well as the Xbox one and their sales are only rising as time goes by. Their gaming franchises are just as popular as ever (Mario, Pokemon) in terms of reviews and they're being just as innovative as they've always been with games like Splatoon. Just one poor performance at an event doesn't mean they're dead (which I'm not confirming as I'm not actively following E3 at the moment).

This poor topic is turning into a flame war, and one that I do not want to be a part of.
