there's an extension by frankusky made for chrome, and it works great as it gives you updates on your pm's and threads you have favourited when you're outside of a801.

^ Was gonna say that, the extension is extremely useful.
The only thing it doesn't have (and I don't blame him for not putting it in) are the messages which quote you. This is rather hard to find so it would be nice if there were a notification for that. So /support
