I usually listen to upbeat or energetic anime music, and/or do something that takes my mind off things (reading, listening to music, etc.). I don't know though, that's just me.

TL;DR -
How i deal with depression:
- Lie down
- Tries not to cry
- Cry
- Throws tantrum

How I should deal with depression:
- try not to eat junk food/ bakey stuff
- Exercising
- Forcing myself to be happy

Long post on why i think depression exist (just for my satisfation)
I am not too sure how i got out of it myself actually... Depression is a complicated topic itself and i don't want to assume anything i say to be true
I think probably one major reason of depression is our hormones, which is responsible for our emotions. They (GnRH) start being produced at around 7 and might subside around 17 years old. For some reason the feeling of too much hormones produced makes you really down, like an extra weight placed onto you.

Stress has been a thing that enhance it very much, due to it we tend to eat junk or bakery food to make ourselves happy.
However, these food enhances these hormones, so probably by eating these, it can keep your stress away for awhile but you won't be able to get out of depression (if you have).

Its good that you know you are depress, because being aware of it can be the 1st step of getting out of it. Because hormones are not part of your brain, and you can technically say that what you are feeling now is not by you, but your body.

Fighting back the feeling seems to be the only way. If you are feeling heavy and sluggish, force yourself to give some impactful punch in the air, scream, stretch, get yourself energetic, dance it off!

Everyone is going to feel this feeling, and the mood given by people can affect other people's emotions as well. If you don't want people to snap at you and make you depressed, try to give a smile!
It is hard, its irritating and why should we do it anyways? iTS TIRING.
The feeling of irritation is not by you but your hormone, its your consciousness against your body, and if oyu really want to be able to control yourself, you have to do something and make a difference. Its hard, even I cannot get out of it, but...
Be happy, the only way to get out of depression is to force yourself to be happy, energetic and eat right u v u"

This is one thing that I do not like to talk about. My friend... was depressed. I ended up leaving her because it was too much for me. Honestly, the way I helped her a little was by talking about stuff she liked, and for some reason when she was mad I told her what made me mad once and how we felt about it. It made us laugh after.

excerise

^ this is often extremely helpful if you can get into a good daily/weekly routine

Exercise and other routined activities often get thrown out as the end-all be-all cure for depression, except people fail to realize that it is often nigh impossible for a severely depressed person to start or upkeep any routines. It is like telling someone who is drowning to try to breathe air.

Except OP didn't say they were severely depressed, just that they were worried about slipping into depression.
And as someone diagnosed with it from a young age, I can say getting myself to exercise when I was able to and having a set routine in the morning was extremely useful to me so please don't make assumptions yourself about depression lol. The "drowning person to breathe air" is an unnecessarily edgy analogy and it's not accurate for everyone either. Not to mention I never said it was a "end-all be-all cure", just that it's often very helpful if you can.

Lol some people can't just stop being sad with the snap of a finger, doesn't work that way sweetie.

Vent drawing and ranting are great ways for me to feel better, even if just a little.
Playing video games usually helps me get my mind off things as well.

Depression to me is like a roommate in a mental facility. You can't get rid of him no matter how much you ask the staff for a room change because he keeps throwing his balled up socks against the wall and won't stop no matter how much you ask....

To all the people saying 'I go to my happy place':

Sometimes there are no happy places. Depression can make you feel like there is no hope left, that there is no happiness left for you. I've never been depressed but have had a friend who has huge depression that impacts her whole life on. I know that she's possibly tried to get to her 'happy' place but it has never worked at all.

Although this doesn't happen to everyone. ^^

Anyway, there are a lot of methods to cure depression or avoid depression.

Listen to music that soothes you. If you like a rock band and it soothes you, continue listening to it. However, some songs can make your depression worse or can make you feel very angry. I'd recommend listening to peaceful relaxing music.

Talking to someone like a therapist or a family member can also soothe you. Sometimes, it might not work, but it's worth a shot. Let your feelings out to someone you trust. They'll be there for you and they wont judge you, it can help avoid depression as it has worked on a classmate of mine.

This is true. The methods I say might not affect people who have real depression and they may not 'cure' depression. Even if you try to get rid of depression, it just wont work. You have to take your time on depression and hope for the best, even if hoping is not a option.

If you want to deal with depression, I suggest going outside. Just breathe in and breathe out until you feel completely relaxed. Then, grab a cup of water and just drink it slowly. Just feel relaxed. However you think you can relax, you do that.

HOWEVER, if cutting yourself is a relaxing option- sTAY AWAY FROM THE KNIFE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND CUTTING OR HURTING YOURSELF IN ANY WAY TO CURE YOUR DEPRESSION OR AVOID IT. IT'LL JUST MAKE IT WORSE AND IT'LL IMPACT YOUR HEALTH. IT'S A HUGE RISK SO PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T.
