This is me. Usually the way to tell someone is genuine is if you offer to buy them food and they don't refuse. If they don't, they're more likely to be actually in need.

Um... No offense but a few weeks ago there was a young child that was begging for money and claiming he was really hungry. I bought a burger and gave him it, and he threw it in the trash can seconds later. :|

That actually proves my point. He was probably being put up to it by his family.

I give money to whoever seems like they need it if I have the spare change. It's not fun being in that situation, and maybe the money will be used to get out of that situation. Maybe not. It doesn't matter to me, it's their money now not mine.

For those who are asking money for eating, I prefer to buy them some food and give it directly to them
By this way I can see who really need to eat instead of them who'll just buy alcoohol or useless things like this
