Not sure what the fuss is about this, seems like a pretty nice idea to me. You can get whatever name you want, and if you're so worried about people copying your name then you're just gonna need to be original, assuming you're changing your name. The only issue would be if people are copying names to harass someone, but I imagine there will be a solution to that since the vast majority of people won't be choosing a name with the idea of harassing someone.

Not entirely sure why people are trying to demand a refund for a name change either, recently changed ones yeah maybe, but people who changed their names months ago aren't in a position to demand a refund. It's like buying something in the store and the next week it goes on sale, you don't get to waltz up and demand your money back. That ain't how it works.

[size=5]Anger is now possible to certain, as $15 for a name change was a ridiculous amount in the first place. You need to address this in a civilized and kind manner as to not anger anyone who feels as if the money they spent was wasted. Because it kind of was.

I can't see anyone trying to copy and impersonate most other users, and complaining that someone stole your username is kind of silly? But regardless, the number system needs to be placed in a way that users can always see and identify who is who. It is confusing enough but only placing it in SOME instances makes the few cases of impersonation even more confusing and hard to prove for both players and mods- this means accidental bans, hostilities to random players who have done nothing wrong, etc.
I understand the 89 million players who are likely mainly inactive is putting a strain on how many usernames are available, but issues like this needs to be addressed.

Couldn't they just delete inactive accounts?

We are the game's playerbase. We are telling you exactly what the fuss is about. The language used feels dismissive, and while we know that the ultimately the decision is up to the admins we want our concerns addressed and heard as if we are equals. You can't tell us that you imagine a solution without telling us what the solution will be because the idea of getting harassed is an actual worry for some players. Young and old.

People feel cheated and the asking for money back is exactly what the opossum fur was. We are using the opossum fur as precedent. I like the idea a little bit if only because I can change my name to Polyphemus or Anubis because 99% sure it was taken, but that is a huge slap in the face for those who wanted a name before hand and paid money to get it.

The solution would be reporting it to a mod and using the ignore feature. Undoubtedly the response to this will be 'but their whispers are off!' or 'they never responded' but I've grown tired of responding to that since people never seem to understand.

The opossum fur is an exception as that was openly admitted to be a mistake, hence refunds were given. This is no mistake, this update is an opportunity for people to choose a different name, perhaps a more generic one or maybe an even more original name. Yeah, people who have changed their names recently, maybe within the last month, will kinda feel like this is a slap in the face and to those players I think it's understandable to get a refund. But any changes older than that, no. I hate to break it to you, but just because you buy something full price at one point, that doesn't mean there won't be an option to either get a discount or get it for free at another point in time.

And yeah I have been reading what people are saying, but people are suggesting solutions that have been declined before, such as purging older inactive accounts. So if you don't bring any new suggestions in other than just regurgitating previous ideas, then simply saying 'I don't like this' will not get you anywhere.
