this world has become so obsessed with technology that i am a bit disappointed. my mom is from Nigeria and she was raised in a village in the 1970s-1980s. she didn't have a phone till probably this decade. same with my dad, except he was raised in Cameroon, but that's not my point.

People always become obsessed with something. Before phones it was board games, magazines, books, etc. The past is no better than the present in terms of obsession over a hobby or activity. this is a pretty good vsauce video that can be linked to this subject

but i mean, staying on your phone or any sort of addiction/obsession, sometimes, depending on what it is, at times cannot be healthy.

again i was pretty mad at the respones with stuff saying like "no i need them", when you really don't, you just WANT them so i was typing out stuff on the top of my head.

The video is a good watch that talks about it, I recommend you watch it whenever you have time.

In the end, people before mightve thought similarly about cards just as how we do of phones

hi just saying but people in abusive households if they can, do actually need access to an outside world such as this
one of my friends was observed by a psychologist and a note was made on their file that they must have their computer as it helps them more properly express themselves
i'm in an abusive household and if not for access to the computer i would not be here, and i also would not be moving out of it
some people may just want them, but some people do actually need them. js.

yeah, I had a therapist who said the same, that the internet for me was my greatest coping mechanism dealing with things that aren't necessary for me to go into
it honestly isn't surprising that losing technology would mentally harm a lot of people significantly, as it means they lose their online friends who meant a lot to them, they lose distractions and things that may have made them happy in their spare time, they lose useful studying resources they had, they lose support groups/forums that helped them, etc.

sure, maybe an older generation of people was able to survive fine without it, but people back then won't miss what they didn't have
not to mention now for so many things now you need technology for them, there's a bunch of places you can't even park unless you have a phone to pay the fee because cash machines are gone, you can't apply to university here unless you log onto ucas, same goes for many jobs you might want to apply to + afaik no job will accept a handwritten CV
edit
not to mention I (and others who deal with the same) need a laptop to type up my exams because a condition I have means I write much slower than average and it's painful for me to write for long periods of time so I'd be at a great disadvantage compared to other candidates if not
