Common causes are sleep deprivation (not getting enough sleep), febrile illnesses (fever/seizures), and sedative agents (including alcohol, medications, etc), basically meaning you're really tired and you're in deep sleep. According to WebMD, genetics, environment, and medical conditions can play a role of sleepwalking as well.

Treatment: You could do something to wake you up when you get up from your bed, such as attaching a bell on your leg or something. Proper sleep hygiene might also be helpful, ex: Avoid napping during the day, since this can mess up your sleep cycle, avoid caffeine, exercise in the mornings or afternoons, don't eat a large meal right before bed, and have a regular time you go to bed at.

Other than proper sleeping techniques and the bell/alarm thing to wake you up, there's not really a lot of treatments you can do without seeing a doctor. I would recommend telling your parents to consult a doctor since sleep walking can be extremely dangerous. There are medications that can help control or stop sleep walking, but of course they're prescription only and require you to be seen by a doctor.

Apparently hypnosis is also a treatment, but I'm not sure about that (WebMD says this as well)

I do not want to be rude, but from what I can read of the problem that you have provided, this seems like a very easy question. I'm not entirely sure why "x - y" is included by I'm assuming it's asking you to find the largest total of x - y for a choice of x and y in the interval of [1,50] as well. These should be pretty easy to figure out, unless you've worded the question incorrectly. If you have any questions about terminology or if this is really troubling you, feel free to PM me and ask, but from the looks of it, I would say you should reread the question more carefully. I'll just hint that your answer will be a single number, not the x and y you are choosing (assuming that my interpretation of your question is the same as what believe the question to be).

Try picking two different numbers between 1 and 50 and then adding them. Look at the total, then rationalize if the number that is one larger than it can be created by the summation of two other numbers between 1 and 50. Once you find a number that cannot be created by the sum of two x and y, you'll probably have the sum you're looking for.

I'm kind of stale on math, and the way the question is worded seems odd, and I'd really love to answer that, but then you'd be cheating on your homework. :(

Is that plus sign you typed part of the question, or is that a lazy way to say "and"?

IF I'm understanding things correctly, x and y can be any two different numbers ranging from 1 to 50. For example "25 - 1", or "3 - 15". However, you are looking for the largest values of x and y. You can only use numbers up to 50, so....

could you show an example of what you mean? i might not get back to this for a few days but if you show an example another user may be able to tell you why it's not working

how old is he and what breed?

About a year and a half, and he is guessed to be part American Bulldog, Black Lab, and some Ridgeback in him, he has that fluffy fur mohawk on his neck, but nowhere else. (He's the size and color of a Black lab, he does have a few dark brown splodges on him, though, he has that ridge, as I said, and his face is simular to an American Bulldog's, he even has short ears.)
