a way to see if a username you want is taken is to take the profile link, then remove your name with a user you want, so for example, the link to my profile is http://atelier801.com/profile?pr=Kaekat, if i want to see if a name is already existing, i would replace my name with another.

another way (and more efficient if you're actually thinking about changing it) to see if a username is available is to go to your account settings, verify your email, and go to "change name", and keep typing in names you want until you see if it's taken or not.
if it's still available, don't say what it is, as someone might take it from you.
