I wonder how difficult it would be to reverse the update*, since so many people have joined with duplicate names.

just convert all the tags to regular numbers since its essentially what they already are; and remove the 0000 ones

It's a disaster, plain and simple.

There will just be clones which may lead to reputaions being ruined and confusion galore.

I don't like the fact that people can make an account with my (or any of my friends names) and potentially ruin our reputations.... I've been playing for 3 years and I think I honestly may quit over this
This change was utter garbage

The tags have pros and cons, and it's mostly cons you have to worry about now. The pros are:
If you have a typo in your username that you don't like, you can fix that.
If you don't like your username in general, you can change it to something you approve of.
The cons are:
Someone can copy your username, but just have a different tag. It'd be fairly easy to ruin someone's reputation with a few, simple whispers. At least you'd have different tags, right?
Can't really think of any other cons or pros right now, I'll keep you updated.

The only thing I wish they would have considered before rushing into this is the bugs which followed afterwards. There were quite a few to begin with, including people not showing online when they actually were, soulmate issues, etc.

Rushing into a big change like that is a nono

And it also affects the some daily features to be more annoying without the need of the bugs, s.a. typing the #0000 crap when using daily commands as /watch
