e Order of the notes Notes The next layer is light- colored sandstone. There are ripple marks in the sandstone. The ripple marks are evidence that the water had become shallow enough for tides to move the sediment back and forth. In this way, sand would have been deposited on top of the rock layer below. Fossils in this layer include corals, which prefer warm, shallow seawater The top layer of the rock formation is mostly conglomerate, a mix of different sized pebbles embedded in pale mudstone. These could have been sediments dropped off by glaciers. These are scratches on these rocks that indicate scraping, evidence of glacial action. In the finer grained portion of this layer, we found large pieces of woolly mammoth bones. The bottom layer of the rock formation is a dark mudstone. This mineral indicates that the parent material was in deep water with little oxygen. Fossils in this layer include a few deep- water fish. These specimens have features similar to modern fish adapted to low- light conditions The next layer is red, fine- grained sandstone. The red color, combined with the rounded shape of sand grains, supports our hypothesis that the sand was deposited by wind on top of the rock layer below. Fossils in this layer include land plants that resemble those that grow in relatively warm, dry climates today. The next layer is still mudstone, but lighter in color. The color change indicates an environment with more oxygen due to a lowering of sea level and shallow water. Fossils in this layer include trilobites, brachiopods, and clams. All these species lived at the bottom of the ocean. The next layer is also red, fine- grained sandstone. This layer has raindrop impressions, suggesting a relatively wet climate. Fossils in this layer include small land plants that resemble those that grow in cooler climates today, along with the partial skeleton fo a small, furry mammal |

Nice comic series the most well-lit interiors fall far short in matching exterior light intensity. |
