I'm religious, I believe there will be an afterlife.
It's a bit fuzzy though, on how exactly it will happen. Death has always made me fear life, but I find comfort in believing there will be a 2nd life.
And I respect all of your opinions

Which would be the reason why our spirits don't go into animals

Animals don't go to heaven or hell

Then we lose our beloved pet FOREVER once it dies? God created animals to give us enjoyment, so why wouldn't he want that in heaven?
Also, if you believe this, then babies (who die before they can talk) also don't go to heaven. Which I highly doubt.
