Not because of Nicki Minaj unable to voice. Plus, showing Opal and Sugilite twice with a still tangible absence of Sardonyx would've been too much [of a wait] anyways.

it could very possibly be both of those tbh, but they did eventually fuse into sugilite so i wonder how stable that turned out after the six second scene of her smashing the communication hub to the ground. maybe she was fine since amethyst and garnet were both level (well, garnet not so much. but garnet can definitely keep a fixed maturity longer than amethyst so) at the time?? but i agree we rlly needed sardonyx
