PLEASE put spoilers of the game in spoilers. You really shouldn't ruin the fun for people.
Yume Nikki is a surrealistic adventure game created by indie developer Kikiyama using RPG Maker 2003, released in June 26, 2004. The player controls a hikikomori character named Madostuki (Windowed) who travels through her dreams. In this dream world, there is a small room called "The Nexus," which has 12 doors that will lead to other worlds. These worlds, in turn, will lead to many other worlds for the player to explore. If the player is lost, they can wake Madostuki up by pressing the 9 key, which causes her to pinch her cheek and wake up. While the idea of the game is mostly exploration, the "goal" of the game is to collect 24 objects called effects. The most important one is the bike effect, as it doubles your speed, which makes it easier to explore the strange dreams.

Other Information That you Don't Really Need to Know About
Yume Nikki has adapted into both a light novel and a manga, titled Yume Nikki: Anata no Yume ni Watashi wa Inai (Dream Diary: Inside of Your Dream, I Am Not There). The novel, written by Akira and Illustrated by Ako Arisaka, was published in August 27, 2013. The manga, illustrated Hitoshi Tomizawa and published by Takeshobo, had lasted from May 20, 2013 to March 13, 2014.

Yume Nikki seems to be based off LSD, A 1998 PlayStation game with similar dream-based themes and gameplay.

Multiple fangames have been made for Yume Nikki, examples including .Flow, LCDDEM, and Yume 2kki.

An app for a minigame named Nasu was released for IOS and Android.

If you want to try the game out, make sure you're ready for weird stuff, 'cause there's a lot of it.
No, seriously.
It's weird as hell.
