The search for "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" is an ongoing Internet phenomenon. It involves the attempt of various Internet users from around the world to identify the authorship of an untitled new wave song (unofficially dubbed "Like the Wind" or "Check it In, Check it Out" from verses in the song) whose band or title of the song have not been identified since its reported airing on a German radio station in 1984. According to Darius, he recorded the song when he was a teenager on a tape labeled "cassette 4" along with songs from XTC and The Cure that were released around 1984. Further evidence that supports this as being the earliest possible airing date was the Technics tape deck that he most probably used to record the song on which was manufactured in 1984 as well. In 2007, the sister of Darius S., posting under the pseudonym "Anton", began posting the song on the Internet in an attempt to identify the artist and title of the song. The woman, who eventually identified herself as "Lydia H.", posted the song to a German fansite devoted to eighties synth-pop and to spiritofradio.ca, a Canadian website devoted to identifying songs uploaded by fans. The video is named "Unkonow Song – Cancion Desconocida – Track Id." There, it gained only 7,100 views in eight years. this was the first known rip of the song to youtube. On 20th April 2019 Gabriel da Silva Vieira created a Reddit profile named “gabgaskins” in hopes of spreading awareness of the song to a wider audience. The article centres on the overall hunt for the song’s origin and full recording. On July 2019 Instagram user Bruno Kundo sended a direct message to YouTuber and musician Justin Whang explaining the search for the song as a recommended topic for Whang’s web series “Tales From the Internet”. on 1st July 2019 Gabriel Vieira created the r/TheMysteriousSong subreddit. He also did a post called “Unknown Song (Like The Wind) Investigation” which covers all information about the song on 2nd July 2019 Reddit user “newacountz” responded to “Unknown Song (Like The Wind) Investigation” saying he has found more posts made by Anton (aka bluuue) in German music forums. He provided three links in his comment that proves his claim. Newacountz creates another comment in “Unknown Song (Like The Wind) Investigation” identifying the "Music for young people" (Musik für junge Leute) DJ to be British radio presenter Paul Baskerville who likely may of broadcasted the song between 1982 to 1984. On 2nd July 2019: Reddit user “newacountz” responded to “Unknown Song (Like The Wind) Investigation” saying he has found more posts made by Anton (aka bluuue) in German music forums. He provides three links in his comment that proves his claim. On 3rd July 2019 Gabriel Vieira attempted to contact Paul Baskerville via Facebook. On 10th July: Justin Whang released the video “The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet - Tales from the Internet” on his YouTube Channel. The video covers the then current progress of the search. Paul Baskerville responds to Gabriel Vieira saying he doesn’t know the song. Paul provides Gabriel an email address to a woman who archived Paul’s shows. Gabriel messages the archival woman. Paul sends Gabriel another email saying he is on holiday and will aim to play the excerpt on his radio show once he gets back. 12th July: Johnnymetoo uploads the full song on anonfiles and makes a post about it on r/TheMysteriousSong. Gabriel Vieira uploads the full recording onto his YouTube channel. On August 2nd, a website themysterioussong.com was launched. On the same day, Whang! uploaded a video named "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet UPDATE" on YouTube where he talks about new information about the song. On November 2019 a Reddit user found that in the chorus of this song, a synth called Yamaha DX7 was used, there's a preset called Syn-Lead 5, and it's exactly the same sound they used in the song, the Yamaha DX7 was released in 1983, so we may have a basis that the song was probably recorded in 1984, or late 1983. On June 2020 a reddit user called u/xaviersimpson88 found out on worldradiohistory.com that the song might have been aired in August 27-31 1984 ![]() Some of the songs there appeared on the Darius' Cassettes along with the mysterious song which indicates that the song might have been aired in August 27-31 1984 On 15th June 2020 an User called ''Ohololocoli'' posted a thread about the song on a forum called ''Atelier 801'' The community's official Discord server has also found various undocumented and/or obscure media of various genres False Claims antwon01: A random kid called antwon01 claimed that he did the song (Of course he didn't) on Shazam. he put the song on Shazam under his name. if you play the song to shazam it will show ''antwon01 - Like the Wind'' he stated that he did this 1 year ago when he was 13 beacause his friends told him to claim it Discord/Reddit Troll User: on discord a troll user who impersonates users's nicknames on discord and reddit claimed that he did the song (Of course he didn't). he also makes fake posts on r/lostwave saying that he found other mysterious songs and other things (Which is a lie) Possible Artists Camouflage (Ruled Out): A German Synthpop Band. on a Youtube comment an user said that Camouflage's Vocalist's voice sound similiar to the mysterious song's vocalist's voice. He spoke to the band's manager personally and he said that they didn't make the song. Sinking Ships (Ruled Out): (Not to be confunded with a band formed in 2004 also called Sinking Ships) English band formed in 1979. after their song called ''Strangers'' was discovered (''Strangers'' was a mysterious song like this one too) alot of people thought they were the band that made The Most Mysterous Song on the Internet beacause their vocalist sounds like The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet's vocalist. a person emailed them asking if they made the Most Mysterious Song on the Internet and they admitted that they didn't. Possibilities about the whereabouts of the Artists: 1. They are all alive/some are dead and others alive and unaware that the song gained popularity 2.
