I'm kinda surprised I haven't seen anyone else with this idea, but here it goes:

There are a lot of maps in survivor, racing, and vanilla that are 100% symmetrical (Death The Kid approved)

I make survivor maps, and I am currently working on a p4 map that I want to be symmetrical. To be blunt, it's a pain in the butt. I'm okayish with the map editor, and I know that it can be pretty difficult when you first start making maps. So why don't we have an option in settings that allows us to make maps symmetrical?

This would be a simple addition that would make mapmaking forever easier.
That's all c: constructive criticism is welcomed :)

Love that Death the Kid reference

Support, it's better than relying on the coordinates.
I mean technically yes, you can rely on typing the coordinates from the 400x800 (probably wrong) map layout, but to have this would be much more convenient than using math every time you place a platform.

you can already do this using MapPad (0.64, 0.68)

They're kind of outdated but work just fine

I don't like symmetrical maps but I guess it is useful

I don't understand why you can't just rely on coordinates, they're really not that hard to understand and it's just basic addition and subtraction. If you have a ground on the 200px coordinate, then it's very easy to remember that the opposite would be 600px. The only reason why this could really be useful is if you wanted to mirror multiple grounds at once, however there are a few suggestions buried deep in this subforum that suggests that. I hate to no support on map-editor suggestions however that seems to be the case here.

Having maps completely symmetrical should be from precision or strategy (like the MapPad mentioned) rather than be a feature,
I personally don't like symmetrical in map design because:
  • This would make influx of symmetrical map usage, and players will find that annoying for the reasons below
  • They look exactly the same when the map is flipped, meaning mouses can always choose the direction they go on the maps (i.e. important in racing) and it isn't in much of general skill for the map in both directions.
  • You can't predict the direction everyone will go in, this can be exemplified by https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/transformice/images/b/b8/Logo_map_vanilla.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20160205152207 26,https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/transformice/images/b/b8/Logo_map_vanilla.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20160205152207 30,https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/transformice/images/b/b8/Logo_map_vanilla.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20160205152207 34,https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/transformice/images/b/b8/Logo_map_vanilla.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/25?cb=20160205152207 35, ect. It feels archaic and unfair to players who have an advantage based on where they go or what is initially favored by a fast shaman.
  • It divides the directions the mouses can go in half and
  • make parts of the level that are actually new movement to go in on are cut in half.
  • Take less effort to make (and more likely easier complete or at least read/understand) than non-symmetrical maps.
  • Symmetry in creation is only a quirk because it is harder to make completely even
  • Don't get me wrong, symmetrical levels can be done right, but with this feature you cannot make symmetry that can be aesthetically pleasing without the usage exception blocks; it can be difficult creating a plank that spans across the middle, but still covers symmetrical physical ground area. (if you do have planks that are able to go across the middle, a duplicate plank will be directly over it, and this would have you lose another shape to be able to use on the level).
