Ok, as I already mentioned above, this thread is about DotA2, League of Legends (LoL) and Heroes of Newerth (HoN) and a comparison between them. They are all massively multiplayer online (MMO) games played and enjoyed by millions worldwide. They don't have a specific genre, but most people call them Action Real Time Strategy (RTS) or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). In this thread I'm going to be talking about all of those games and the gaming experience I've had whlist playing. 1. Defense of the Ancients 2 (DotA2) Website: http://www.dota2.com Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cSFPIwMEq4 Gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cp-VHsB5Bq8 This game is still in its closed beta phase. I've been playing since late 2011 and all I can say it's that it's an awesome game, worthy of being called DotA's successor. The graphics are awesome, effects are jaw dropping and the community is decent. DotA2 has been created with the same logic as DotA1; easy to learn but hard to master; this is your game if you want a real challenge. If you are a fan of this kind of games, applying for an invitation is a must! I totally recommend this game. 2. League of Legends (LoL) Website: http://signup.leagueoflegends.com/?ref=4c371097a3542 Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzMnCv_lPxI Gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUtEz_X_ack I played League of Legends for a pretty long time, since the open beta until late 2011. It's a decent game once you get used to the cartoonish graphics and once you get used to the crap community. The game itself is fun for a while and there are many game modes and many heroes to play and master. It is much more noob friendly than DotA2 or HoN in my opinion. It is also more fast paced than DotA2 or HoN. The nastiest part of LoL is that it gets boring fast. Heroes are pretty easy to master, some of them being a bit unbalanced, and everything starts to get dull pretty fast. Good thing they add new heroes every couple of weeks or so. Even though it's not the best of its genre, LoL is a good game and I think you should give it a try. 3. Heroes of Newerth (HoN) Website: http://heroesofnewerth.com/ref.php?r=3ZWM9355 Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6s5lIA2gUY Gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkFiYSXnfVw I think the most controversial game of its genre, let me introduce you to HoN. A decent game in my opinion, ranked somewhere close to LoL on my ladder. The game has great graphics, lots of updates, but has the absolutely worst community of them all. Players flaming and bullying eachother all the time, it gets pretty annoying after a while unless you can ignore them completely. Another thumb down for the game when it comes to balancing heroes. The game used to be very unbalanced (last time I played was April 2012), some heroes owning everyone 1v5 after farming for the first 20-25 minutes. Even though it has all those downsides, I still think it's a game worth checking out in your free time or when you are bored. |
