Feels like people are doing fanfictions for the attention. THe first few people who came up with the world is suffering plot didn't do badly :C I feel bad for them since other people have taken on the exact same plot and screwed up. |

It's not exactly a new plot idea though, but its very overdone now at this rate I'd rather the Mary Sueish school fiction. |

I mean right now it's not that bad as it was a while ago. (the spam/overload of fanfics) It was so bad I even suggested a different subforum for them |

Personally, the story I worked with Haruhitastic is the 'end of the world' thing but it actually introduced new things, concepts, and some originality. The stories right now are just recycling the same things over and over again. It's getting boring. A fanfic I'm working on is another 'end of the world' thing but I'll be sure to try make it original. |

Haruhitastic a dit : Satash a dit : Most of these kids are young and novice writers. I remember when I first got into writing I followed the bandwagon on ff.n and became extremely popular over it, but it wasn't for the fact that I wrote good, I was only 10. I catered to the reviwers wants and kept them ccoming back for more. I didn't put anyone's characters into the story, but it was a similar thing that kept them coming back. It helped me get closer to the community itself, eventhough they only wanted me around so I could write for them. Now, I don't agree with these kids violently ignoring any critisism they get, but again, most are young and people don't grasp how to take it until they hit about 14-15. However, I do approve of kids accepting OC's to write into their stories. As it may seem to be catoring to the people who are forcing their character's into the author's stories, it helps the author advance as a writer. They explore new characters and new personalities given by people who aren't them. Instead of having frighteningly similiar characters, they get to broden their horizons by having new types of characters to deal with. e: Another thing you guys keep complaining about is unoriginality. Again, these writers are just kids. They never had the typical cliche story, so they don't have the experience to work off of it and create something better at this point in time. |

That's actually a very interesting point, Zak. Thank you. The only issues however are said characters usually have the "same personalities" as everyone else or are Mary Sues which is the last thing anyone needs to learn. I do understand everything else and it's a really good point, so thank you :D |

And I guess on the other side (the side Zak's on), you should appreciate them even having the interest in writing. With all the other things they could be doing, they chose to write for fun. |

you're right, kids'll be kids I just wish sometimes that some more people started their own fanfictions with fresh ideas I don't have a creative bone in my body though Kattiej a dit : very true |

That's true, but people should consider to take critique from their peers. I've been writing longer than most everyone who is currently on this forum has been alive. And I STILL take critique. It's how you grow. |

Actually, I also disagree. While Mary Sues are a no-no in legit writing, I find it perfectly acceptable with young authors. It's a learning experience, and every writer needs to go through a "Mary Sue" stage to advance. It's just how it works. Sure, they should learn to get past it, but it's good practice to have. If you think every character being given in a story is a Mary Sue, make some yourself. Throw some characters in, although make them simple and not complex at all, but different from the norm. |

Zakryah a dit : I personally can't excuse myself out of catering to my readers when I used to write when I was younger. It's true that most children do want attention. Do people actually not take critism very well at a young age? I don't understand. I do agree about accepting characters from other people gives more chances to explore and play around. It makes sense and I can't object to it. However is it really that hard to differnate characters and to come up with original stories? I am only myself so I am not aware of how hard it is for other people. |

While those points are good, I still dislike the fact that most kids ignore good fanfictions if they don't have character requests, and instead flock to the character-request fanfictions. |

people don't take criticism well at a young age because they feel like either the other person is just insulting them or wrong in what they're saying (even if they're not) or they make the excuse that it's "their style of writing" just like some other artists do |

Satash a dit : Yea, some kids are raised with encouragement not disapprovement. Critism can be taken as disapprovement from the person If that makes sense |

Haruhitastic a dit : That's a very, very, very hard concept to learn. They're young, they're kids. So far everything they've been told is "Good job!" or "This is great!", so critiques aren't easy to accept. Satash a dit : Read the above Satash a dit : It's very difficult, to me it was. It took me a very long time to make different characters from what I was used to. Original stories are even harder, since nearly EVERYTHING has been done. I work off cliches, so I take what's given and morph it into my own sick thing. It took me years to find this comfort zone. Lots of experimenting and trial and error, and most of all, embarassment. Lagiacruss a dit : That's with any peer-reviewed writing. TFM stories are not unique in this aspect at all. |
