Perhaps when you're restarting the servers, take a few extra minutes to put out a global in game announcement that links to the Small Announcement thread, so people are able to easily access and see what the changes are. Melibellule a dit : asdfghjkl; i was about to edit my post sayin that it was 90% photoshop's fault but i wanted to keep my post like that to reflect on how i couldve conveyed my criticisms better (i was also gonna add in that i wasnt targeting any admin in general and i was also this close to removing the 'abused' in the 'abused the please understand card' because it doesn't convey the message properly and gives off a bad vibe) thank you mel you're a blessing ;-; also, back to game mechanics and design (in a much more unpartial and calm tone since i was a completely stressed mess on tuesday after having to read 300 pages of a book in one afternoon) i totally agree with you, meli, on the idea that daily streaks can be completely counter-intuitive. throughout my years playing games, i've noticed a pattern in how certain ultra-popular f2p's keep their players coming back while still being able to use the streak system. what they do is they follow a 3 day streak system instead of an accumulating streak (where some players can have 3850294208 day streaks while newbies might only have like 2 day streaks). instead of cheese, players who have the 3-day streak would be able to wear a really pretty shop item during their streak. newbies would want to know how they got it and 75% of the time they'd be told that it's through a streak. the attrition rate would increase to some extent from this. to avoid trivializing this feature, i'd suggest permanently archiving this really pretty shop item after maybe 1/4th of a year or half a year? anyone who wore the item at least 7 times (would only count as being worn once for every day that it's worn) throughout the 1/4th of the year or half of the year would get to keep the item! this would let tfm have more rare items and make even the worst of players log on at least 18 to 36 times a year for these really pretty items. if having these items archived is out of the picture, then i'd just make them extremely expensive. also, if wearing them for 7 days is too much, even for a whole quarter of a year or half a year, i gotta admit that you've got too much on your plate for any online games. to apply hype to this if this idea were to ever be considered, i'd suggest a 'come up with the next streak item!' contest or a 'guess the next streak item' based on a silhouetted image. the first 10 people to come up with it would get 100 cheese. these contests/guessing games could be broadcasted on the cafe or through admin announcements in-game. also, i think that tutorial mouse should get an outfit revamp instead of just the plain brown with a grad cap, and should follow the player around the game for a while until they would normally get the hang of it (maybe 2 weeks). they could introduce you to stuff like 'you are here' 'this is the almighty shaman' 'this is the cafe' 'this is your streaks menu' if a new player joins during an event, tutorial mouse could also be prompted to say this a.'seems like you joined the game just in time --- there's an adventure going on! adventures, commonly known as events, are special occasions that derive from holidays, discoveries, favors, and sometimes even mishaps! view the guide on [our forums] [the cafe] [idk insert place where the admins can communicate how to play the event] or ask experienced players! if the player didn't join during an event and instead just a content adventure (if that's not off the table), then tutorial mouse could say b.'throughout the year, [insert name for world of transformice [hey, actually that gives me an idea. there should be a contest where players get to come up with the name for transformice's world. that's definitely increase communication, hype, and overall activity!]] features adventures. these special occasions derive from holidays, new discoveries, favors, and sometimes even mishaps! stay tuned on the blog and forums for any new adventures. tutorial mouse adds 1. lore (gotta love new characters) 2. a good first impression 3. a sense that the admins of transformice are hard workers who plan everything out before implementing new features, meaning we'd have less negative nancy 'tudes (like some of us, admittedly. trust me, i'm still working on it) prevalent in the game. and this is true. the admins do work hard. inb4 i get comments like "puff! stop kissing ass! you just said the admins suck and are bad at spacing stuff out yadda yadda!" even though work ethic =/= execution of work 4. a game mechanics tutorial. notice how i add 'game mechanics' instead of simply 'tutorial' shaman tutorial would have to rely on a shaman-themed character like the oracle showing you how and where to spawn, and this would happen throughout a few maps, until you have a basic idea of how to play the game. this would eliminate the necessity of having to leave the page to learn how to sham. transformice's website doesn't redirect you to a new tab when you click on any of the categories, and since some younger people might not know how to do this, they'd be forced out of the game to learn how to sham. an in-game shaman tutorial brought to you by the oracle herself would prevent this while, once again, allowing for lore! since i talked about the blog in one part, i want to bring up a cafe suggestion that i planned on make a long time ago but never got around making the visuals for. basically, the cafe wouldn't just be for chat. it'd have many tabs, in which the chat is just one of them. there'd be one for broadcasting (exclusive to the billboard tab, where players get to form a message from pre-selected words such as 'cheese,' 'tribe,' 'vanilla,' 'party,' 'bootcamp,' 'giveaway,' 'trade,' 'pufferfish,' 'adventure,' 'elect,' 'election' 'me,' 'mouse,' 'etc.' each word would cost about 5 cheese, so being succinct is necessary to save you those 5 rounds) if you want to see the concept art i made like last year, here it is. keep in mind a lot has changed. for example, the 'bathroom' was supposed to be was the cafe is right now. but i figured that's..... too much..... and only sheds light on how the situation is currently. also, i decided that the broadcasts wouldn't go under the top bar of the game. you can't force people to see the broadcasts. plus, it'd probably affect gameplay in a negative way. my current idea is 1. main menu/index (welcome to the cafe! make sure to buy our cafe fur (was going to link to it but imgur removed it) to show your appreciation of the cafe!) clicking on an image of a mouse sitting at a french cafe with the fur displayed would take you to the shop. or if you already bought the fur.... (welcome to the cafe! since you already have the cafe fur, all of your broadcasts and comments on the bathroom section of the cafe will have a coffee icon before them!) 2. bar (this is where all of the admin announcements like hype posts/what's new posts, adventure tutorials can be accessed directly in-game, so that casual players don't have to look to the forums themselves for updates. if players wanted to comment, they'd THEN be redirected to the forums by clicking on a redirect or something 3. broadcast/microphone (since some cafes and book stores have poetry night)/megaphone/stage/intercom/billboard/pinboard. i already covered this. 4. trade center. self-explanatory. for consumables. 5. lavatory. the cafe as it is currently. what i've also discovered keeps players into a certain game is when the game connects lore to actual, concrete gameplay. flight rising is a good example of this. night of the nocturne is a lore-based event that features lots of new items that derive from gameplay. during this event, flight rising's servers jump reallyreallyreallyreally high. club penguin is another good example of this. back when i played club penguin in my young'un years, there would be mascots that you had to find around club penguin and certain ones would appear on certain events. some were common to find (could be elise & papaille) while some were extremely difficult to find (could be drekke). these mascots were part of the lore and acted like normal players except they were either played by a club penguin employee or were bots. the thing is that club penguin functions off of servers and their rooms are the same for every server. literally room. like the town or ski hill. transformice works off of languages and the rooms are infinite. my proposal, if this were to ever happen, is to have a mascot, visit, say, village rooms. to prevent extreme lag and to give an exclusive and rewarding feel, these village rooms would lock at 30 to 40 mice i think this idea would be really sweet during halloween. hardcore players would go crazy to find drekkemaus since he can only leave his manor on halloween day. this would make him very rare! club penguin did this too, where on their anniversary, aunt arctic would visit for that day only and give a once-in-a-lifetime background. i have a feeling this would only work out if drekkemaus only stuck around for a while and moved onto another room after 10 minutes. if this seems impractical and ruins the time for players to bond with drekkemaus, then i'd say that there should be some kind of lore where drekkemaus gets his freedom period magically extended to a the whole week during which halloween takes place. in one part i mentioned that there were awards tied into finding mascots. meeting one gave you not only their
before i wrap up, let me talk about the menu. i love the menu! it has so much potential. it can be used to prevent clutter on the dropdown menu. this time i'm going to connect it to poptropica and toontown. poptropica has so many islands that it's difficult for them to all fit on one single frame, especially for a flash game. what poptropica features is a side-scrolling map, but literally a map. to prevent the map from looking cluttery and time-consuming, neat graphics were incorporated. instead of just having the island names, the map also has mysterious landmarks that have sparked controversy (and thus hype and lore/theories!!!!) transformice does exactly this. if you have beautiful imagery, which the menu does have, then you can be able to have a much bigger menu. i imagine it scrolling to the right, with new things like a voting booth or some supreme court house for the elections, a beautiful tree with shaman beads and markings for the skills menu, a backpack for the inventory, three very shiny stars in the night sky for the aforementioned streaks menu, and....... mysterious silhouettes and construction materials lying around???? but why? well, for unreleased content, silly! just like toontown! back when toontown still had new areas to cover, there were clouds on the map for the mysterious areas. don't even get me started on the millions of theories that they sparked lolol. but yeah. transformice is still a developing game. i'd love for the map to be revamped with side-scrolling (lore-based things here and there, like lananah on a cloud in the background!!!!!) and silhouettes that would increase hype. these are mostly just observations/patterns i've noticed over the past year and a half (i contemplate too much on how i can help tfm lol) based on how really popular games thrive through certain features. i'm just accommodating them to transformice if they were to ever be used. how does this all relate to events? i'll let you guys connect the dots. |

let's look back in 2015 (http://atelier801.com/topic?f=6&t=799379&p=1) you had: - 2 months to complete the event - 4 event maps - 2 or 3 event badges + 1 fur badge - 10 titles - 4 new consumables now you have: - 2 weeks to complete the event (yes ik the events are permanent but when a new event comes out, you don't know what to buy -- ex: the badge for the ninja event or the badge for the fishing event?) - 1 event map with a nasy shaman - 1 event badge + 1 fur badge - 1 or 3 titles - 1 or 0 consumables and 1 cartouche I miss the old events.
