I'm creating this thread in order to inform you about any news on my plans and upcoming versions.

First and foremost, I'm working on a new major update, probably the most important and sophisticated one I've ever made. Both considerable performance improvements and plenty of new and useful features that make map making a lot easier are on the to-do list. What in particular?


<BV>Technical matters<N>

The way a map element (grounds, markers,...) is created and added into a map will undergo a radical change. Until now, MapPad has used XML-Manipulation for this task. When I took over the development of MapPad, Stalky had actually mentioned that this should be changed and also provided a new model to be implemented. I haven't made use of this data-binding based object model so far, with version 0.69 this will happen, though. It requires a lot of code to be completely rewritten, that's why an enormous time exposure is necessary.

What is more, the randomisation algorithm used to create "complex grounds" such as Grass, Water, etc will be improved even further. All the 31 40x40px subimages required for all ground types have been stored in separate files so far, of which the loading process may cause unnecessary lag on some computers. With 0.69, all these images will be merged into a single large one - the result is that this one large image only has to be loaded only one single time. When loaded, a function will extract the partial images required for a particular ground type, which is a lot more efficient than loading many image files at the same time.

Additionally, the class which performs the colourisation of decoration items and grounds will be cleaned up for the sake of efficiency. This will also fix the current bug with Rectangle and Circle grounds often causing lag in 0.68.


<BV>New features<N>

All new decoration objects and backgrounds will be added to MapPad, of course, along with a block offscreen option (Ca=""). As mentioned above, I'm planning on adding/have already added lots of new helpful tools and features.

This update (version 0.69) will be very time consuming for me to code, hence won't be released too soon I'm afraid - I can't give you a date yet. Be sure that, in spite of being rather busy in real life at the moment, I'm doing my very best and that your patience is greatly appreciated!

<BV>Known Bugs<N>

• Rectangle and Circle grounds may cause lag if there are too many on a map
• Redo is not working (occasionally)
• Activating the "Show ground borders" option will draw a rectangle around circle by = 2x² + 8x (y x 801)• Using the arrow keys to move a scrolling map isn't always working correctly
• Importing maps from cheese.formice is currently broken.
• Some antivirus programs falsely dectect MapPad as virus. This is not true.
