i use 2-3 layers

i usually use like 4 or more depending on the details of what i'm drawing

hi i use 30 layers most of the time

For a normal mouse drawing I use

Lineart
sharp lighting
soft lighting
shading
accessory color
accessory color*
accessory color*
accessory color*
skin and eye color
fur pattern*
fur color
bg*

Anywhere from 5-12 layers

owo i've only used layers on 2 drawings D: im such a newbie with stuff like that. And i only used 3 on each, 1st for background lineart, 2nd for coloring in background lineart, 3rd for the person or thing i draw in there :I tomorrow ima try drawing a mouse with lineart layer, coloring layer, and then shading <.<

Layers are kinda hard to explain.
Usually for me, I like to draw on one layer and colour on another. They're very useful for that kind of thing if you don't want to mess up the linework.

They're drawings or coloring that overlap or underlap each other, its best for clean drawings like the ones that have lineart or are lineless but not for painting. If you want to erase some coloring but don't want the background to be erased you go to the layer that has the coloring, without doing much damage to the background.

Maybe you should try tutorials on DeviantART about them, they are helpful when I checked some out.
