I've seen someone recently with a 2017 account and 2 orbs from exclusive 2016 events (groundhog's day, balloon), and this person claimed they got it from "chests" or bundles of some kind. Was there an update recently? Because I haven't seen any old badges/orbs outside of village or room 801.

That's dumb, They should keep the shop and have the chests and fun little lucky-boxes on the side.

The lucky-boxes should contain stuff that is worth more than the chest and also less than the chest, to make it fair. Along with maybe some exclusive items that you can only get in chests.

Or what could be done is the new items can be put into chests to give people a chance to win them for very cheap and then after a while move them into the shop to buy at normal prices.

Keep shop as it is and make monthly releases and move Collector stuff to chests

Don't worry. The chests were added in November for a few accounts and that's all.
I doubt they will release them fully as they started doing the collector thing. I don't really understand why they didn't already switch back the shop for those players who have this system, but the chests aren't coming to players who have the old shop.

Since loot crates in other games failed and became memes, I'm sure they won't add it to TFM now.
