A few things though ._.:
1. I couldn't squeeze in the shaman features as the pi and your name + title took up a lot of space and made it look complicated.
2. This is the first time I tried this kind of banner name, hope you like it... Hate that luminosity...
3. The fishbone is on your tail
4. I drew glasses but now they look like part of the eyes... .-.

Well...actually I don't use GIMP for drawing my artworks...only for the "corrections" I do.

But since I do use GIMP a little, I'll try to be of help. :D
In terms of layers into shapes, I think you mean making basic shapes for your drawing? If so, actually GIMP does not have the function to create basic shapes, but it can make a rectangle or a square or...something like that.

GIMP is not designed to be used for drawing or creating shapes. However, you may create shapes by various mthods. Of course, there are various other ways to paint a shape, but let's stick to the easiest ones here. So, create a new image and check that the foreground and background colors are different (foreground is desired colour of shape).


A rectangular selection is created when you press and hold the left mouse button while you move the mouse in the direction of the red arrow (shown in pic above)

Basic shapes like rectangles or ellipses, can be created using the selection tools. So, choose the rectangular selection tool and create a new selection: press and hold the left mouse button while you move the mouse to another position in the image. The selection is created when you release the mouse button.
