For some reason I always see the bubbles as water. Like when they reach the lower bar they just drown. Am I the only one?

The game happens within a 2 dimentional plane. But there are several things that indicate that mice go inside the 3 dimentional plane eventhough it is 2 dimentional. These things are the many holes which are layed down on the surface on the 2 dimentional background, the mice and the portal holes.
Mice can use these to travel through to the 3rd dimention. But there is also a other way to do it, and it's by piercing the surface of the 3rd dimention. You might know mice can spawn in at any locations on a map, but how did they get there? By moving through the 3rd dimention and breaking disturbing the surface.
The same goes for when they want to leave the dimention they can jump back through the 3rd dimention thus disrubting the surface and creating bubbles. Seeing how these bubbles are made of time and space themselves they will merge with it very quickly and thus fade into nothing.
Then you might ask why don't the mice bring the cheese through the surface instead of bringing it through the hole? Well that is because only mice can break through the surface they would lose the cheese doing so. So they created holes through the 3rd dimention which allows cheese to pass through.
After this you might ask why does bubbles appear when mice fall off the map, well when they fall into the abyss there is no other thing mice can do to safe themselves from forever being lost in nothingness and that is moving back through the 3rd dimention waiting for another 2 dimentional plane to open.
