Chapter Eight - Short Meeting With A Patrol A paw prodded her side. Griffinscreech blinked the sleep out of her eyes and looked at the mouse that had woken her up. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness and her sight cleared the sleepiness, she recognized Calamity. “It’s your shift now. Everyone else has taken theirs,” Calamity whispered, sleepiness thick in her tone. Griffinscreech nodded, stretching luxuriously with an enormous yawn. She carefully padded over the other mice and muttered a quick “Goodbye” to Calamity, who was already fast asleep. Griffinscreech settled down at the entrance of the burrow, ears twitching and alert for any signs of danger. Thoughts quickly made their way into her mind, questions she didnt know the answer to. How did Owl meet the rats? How did he know it was safe to trust them? Why should we trust them? What if they betray us and attack us? Why did the Shaman call a quits to the battle so quickly? Sure, it was an extremely loud noise, but the large, powerful mouse surely could withstand a sound? Why did a star fall? Griffinscreech shook her head, unable to answer any of the questions, and let out a stressed sigh. Dawn made its way to the skies quickly, turning the dark-blue sky to a dove-colored grey. Griffinscreech stood up and stretched to get rid of the stiffness in her limbs. “Way to start the day. I hope it doesnt rain...” She looked uncertainly up to the grey clouds that covered the sky. “We’ll have to hope that the weather doesnt break.” She turned around and looked at the snoozing mice. She padded up to them, waking them up. “Why’d you do ‘at for?” Wild complained, yawning, and he curled up into a tight ball, but now wriggling. “I wa’ having a great dream, and you ruin’ it!” Griffinscreech snorted, not knowing whether to feel amused or irritated. She prodded the rest of the team awake. “Alright everyone. We should move west today, and cover as much land as we can. We’re still in the Tribe’s territory, and we do not want to get into a fight with them. Com-pren-do?” Griffinscreech held her voice on the last word, flashing Wild a few glances. He simply squeaked “Kay” before turning his back and nibbling on the left-overs of last night’s berries. Bluecloud, Moondance, and the others nodded their agreement and dug in with Wild to eat the left-overs. After they’d finished their short meal, Griffinscreech’s team followed behind her and she led the way out of the rabbits’ burrow. “Glad we’re out of there” Moondance muttered to Bluecloud, loud enough for Griffinscreech to overhear. “I wont be sharing a den with a rat again for as long as I live, I can assure you that!” He spat out the word “rat” as if it were a seed stuck in his throat, a nuisance to get rid of. Bluecloud murmered in agreement. And I can assure you it wont be the last we see of them, Griffincraft mused darkly As they padded along the forest in silence, they were brought to a stop by a sharp voice, calling a halt. Griffinscreech knew better than to call her patrol to flee; the other mice were way to close to them, and they were faster than them in the woods. The Tribe’s scent hit them like a Sharpclaw’s paw. If they attempted running, and didnt succeed their runaway, they’d be caged for sure. Griffinscreech stopped in her tracks, waiting for the patrol to catch up to them. The leading mouse, a female with fluffy white fur with and a strange red tint to the ears, walked up to the brown-and-white she-mouse, addressing the whole group but looking into Griffinscreech’s liquid blue eyes with a firm look. “You’re the group who ran away, arent you?” the female mouse growled at them, signaling for her patrol to surround them; and they listened. “Yes, but w-we’re on o-our way, if we may.” Griffinscreech hated her voice when she heard it crack nervously, and tried again. “We’re sorry that we had to have such a ‘sneaky’ way out, but we couldn’t stand being trapped in the cells.” The white-pelted mouse snorted but all hostility vanished from her eyes, replaced by kindness, which surprised Griffinscreech thoroughly. “It’s ok, I understand. I was a prisoner too once, but I became a part of the Tribe. I’m Berry,” the fluffy mouse’s eyes gleamed, pleased when she saw the team’s eyes shocked at her sudden change of mood. “What are your names? We never got along to that.” While the team and the patrol introduced themselves to each other, Griffinscreech’s pelt burned with curiosity at the sudden mood-swap of the patrol. Did they all immitate the patrol’s leader? And what was with the silent commands? How did they know what to do, without someone issuing orders at them? Griffinscreech approached Berry carefully, aware that she was speaking to a senior Tribe mouse. “Are we going to get off lightly?” Griffinscreech squeaked, not intending to say those words, but she went along with it either way. “I suppose...” Berry replied grudgingly, a tinge of regret in her voice, as if she wished she hadnt befriended them. “But if we see you around the territory roaming around again, we’ll take you to Shaman, no questions asked.” Her tone hardened, and Griffinscreech nodded her thanks. That didnt go as expected. As much as I hate to say it, I dislike getting away this easily... “Let’s go. We’re wasting daylight.” Griffinscreech told her group, and they nodded in agreement. They quickly set off, unwilling to idle in case the Tribe patrol changed their minds. Once the patrol was out of sight, Griffinscreech turned to adress her team. “We probably wont make it out of the Tribe’s territory by dark, so I suggest we travel until dusk, and then stop and search for shelter and food. Who’s with me?” Everyone’s tails perked up and Griffinscreech murmered in satisfaction, but she felt an odd, sinking feeling in her stomach. It’s probably nothing She thought, attempting to shoving away the feeling, with very little success. After a while of walking, the team’s members had shivers run along their spines as raindrops started to fall, lightly at first, but quickly turning into harsh downpour. “Quick! Search for the high grounds! The forest is going to flood!” Griffinscreech shrieked above the thunder, lightning blinding them for a second. She blinked away the dazling feeling in her eyes. She gathered up the group, making sure no one got left behind. “Go up the tree!” Her shrill squeak rung in everyone’s ears, and they obeyed, darting and scrabbling at the tree’s sides. Owl, Ice, and Griffinscreech helped the others get up. At this point, the forest floor was already soaked, the water was a brown mud color. Ice scurried his way up the tree, and Griffinscreech tried running after him, only to fall back down into the water, which was turning into violent waves. Owl ran over to help her up, and he helped her reach up the tree. After she was safely up in the tree-hole, Owl attempted to run up, only to be shocked down by the brightness of lightning. His eyes dazzled by the flash made him lose his grip on the tree, and with a shocked gasp he fell into the hungry waves, which covered his body instantly as he fell. He was nowhere in sight. Griffinscreech stared at the violent mass of water in horror, her screech drowned by loud thunder. “Owl, NO!" Dernière modification le 1410574860000 |

Ahh, sorry that the chapter is longer than usual. And maybe a bit confusing. Sorry I made up the story as it went! I literally read dozens of fanfics before making this chapter, and reread a lot of Warrior Cat books, in order to get an idea on what to make. I hope you like the chapter! e.e Also, sorry for Triple post. Please dont merge the posts together! I like having one comment for the Chapter alone. Thank you ~<3 E// SAVE ME FROM QUADRUPLE POST PLES Dernière modification le 1411235400000 |
