I just downloaded it and it’s awesome, but I have one question:

Can I make the background transparent? If so, how? Is it different in the Mac download? (I have a Mac, so it was downloaded with the Mac download version)

You mean a tool that selects stuff like a free form.. um... picture selecting thing?
If so, then no, MyPaint doesn't have it.

yes , its really good , but I find it good for making just doodles , it doesn't have some of the options that SAI has and picking each thing etc , slows me down a lot , you don't have the lasso tool wich is really bad * my anatomy for every animal/thing in the world is sooo bad I have to make it shorter without deleting half of the drawing ) but its easy to use and has lots of tools .

The thingie I circled allows you to change brush size, opacity, hardness and slow position tracking

I seemed to have picked a brush that glows a little bit?
