I'm trying to figure out the best way to bring variety to racing.

As you have probably noticed, TFM's map randomizer was and is very buggy. Certain maps play much more often than others do, in fact sometimes a map will appear 10 times before others appear at all. It didn't matter if a category had 100 maps in it or 1000 - either way, the same 25 maps would play over and over. In late 2015, I tried to fix this by splitting the 1500 racing maps into groups of 250 and changing the active maps each month.

This month, I experimented by activating all 1500 racing maps to see if it resulted in more variety. From what I've heard so far, yes, there has been a larger variety of maps showing up. I took some stats to test this: I put a bot in a racing room and had it /mort repeatedly, writing down every map it saw until it had seen 100,000 maps. This still isn't perfect randomization but it's a hell of a lot better than it used to be, and it seems to work in such a way that having more maps in rotation will lead to more variety

With this in mind, I think I'm going to abandon the groups system... at least for now. Depending on things go I may start changing the maps every month again but with 500+ maps in each group instead of 250.

I checked one of my bot's records and I haven't logged into the game with my main account to play since January 2017. Maybe I will log in and play a few rounds for nostalgia one of these day, but in general I'm glad the mouse game chapter of my life is over.

It's nice being apart from all the big decisions and whatnot behind the scenes as well. In recent years past I was always coming up with some kind of plan, improvement, or scheme. Now I just maintain my tools and hang around.

Let me know if the game starts filling up with BR gostosas again, maybe I'll return sooner.
