They've adjusted the required number in the past. I'm sure they will again after they catch the drift of how the progress is going. Or at least tweak it so there are more doable means of reaching the goal.

I think I have a solution that will possibly but probably might not work. Increase the time limit in the event maps. Reason i'm saying this is because we only have more than a month left and each event round is 2 minutes. Since everyone wants to gather for their adventure points and at the same time building the school. 2 minutes isn't enough. At least increase the event time to like 5-10 minutes (although 5 would be more reasonable) so that way we'll have enough time to gather materials and build the school faster. But other than that, we need luck in these maps.

The other day I came in a room already playing the event, the bridge wasn't here, simply invisible.

I personally don't think this event is... well... poop :P

But i think it's very poor planned without considering player's possible acts. As i said before, many people doesn't want to contribute (for example, making shovels) if they don't get any achievement from that. You'll see; they aren't helping to make shovels, but they'll help to make cement because it's in the adventures pages to complete.

Anyway, admins have a schedule i believe and everything has to be completed in a particular time period. That's why they're decreasing required amounts everytime things get slower. I hope this schedule doesn't cover the whole 2 months and leave us some time to complete what we missed and to relax before the next event.

Or maybe we get a nice catapult with the next upgrade... Or get divided into teams like in the hugging event to combine items. If people are not reading the wiki or this thread they most likely won't even know about the combining.
