Prologue Many years ago, Konorin was a peaceful place. Until one day, a shadow entered the land. It made its way from village to village, seemingly doing no harm. Until that fateful day, when it entered the kingdom of Miday. The king mysteriously died that night, and when people found him in his bed the next day, black mist seemed to pour from his eyes, nose, and mouth. One by one kingdoms fell in the same way, the kings dead in their bed chambers with smoke pouring from their eyes, nose, and mouth. Nobody was able to find the cause of the sudden deaths, though many tried. Fear was in every person’s heart, what if their king was next? What if the sickness spread to other nobles? What if what if what if. The biggest of those, was what if it took the king of all of Konorin? That what if, became true a month after the first king had died. A shadow sat itself on the king of Konorin’s throne, and changed into a man with black eyes and purple hair so dark that it was a lighter shade of black and one could only tell its color when light shone on it. He smiled, shining white fangs glinting in the torch light. “I claim the throne of Konorin, in the name of Voradic.” |
