My main issue with this is that people who know the rotation of the maps in regular rooms can abuse this feature by "skipping" their shaman turns by spectating when they know a P6 or a P9 map is set to appear, and resuming play when they know a P4 is queued. I have a specific way on how to go about this that might help mitigate concerns: Spectate mode would be activated only upon entering a room, by using a spectate command. To use this command, you enter /spec [room name] to join that room as a spectator [For example, /spec *Seeteegee vanilla would take you to room *Seetegee vanilla, but as a spectator, instead of as a player. If someone wanted to spectate the current room he is in, he would have to give up the shaman points he has and restart from zero. Also, he would have to switch rooms first before returning to spectate. An error message saying "You are already playing in that room!" would appear if a player attempted to spectate in a room he is playing in. The spectator's name would appear on the shaman points list, but they would be greyed, and it would not display any points. This lets people in the room know that there are spectators. On the right where the shaman items list would appear, there is just one button that says "JOIN ROOM". Upon clicking said button, the spectator would be able to spawn in the NEXT round. This prevents people from farming event maps using this feature. In this example I made quickly, the spectators' names are always at the bottom [I just used "Spectator as an example, but the players' usernames would be displayed there], with no points. On the right is just a big "JOIN ROOM" button that allows them to spawn in the next round. These spectators would also be able to chat, and their messages appear as normal. However, the players in the room have an option to hide spectators' messages from chat. This allows people to chat with friends in a room without affecting their ratios, and at the same time prevents spamming. If a person attempted to use /spec on an empty room, an error message would appear saying the room is empty. They would be unable to go to that room. It's pointless to watch an empty room anyway. Plus there's no sensible way to cycle maps. The main advantage of having a spectate mode is that people would be able to see how a room is being played without necessarily jumping right in and learning the hard way. This is also useful for watching friends in module rooms, survivor rooms, racing rooms, and bootcamp rooms without affecting one's ratios. For me, it would be a nice way to show people how I farm without having them disrupt the speed of said farm. For beginners, it helps learn the game by easing them into it. |
