HTML is the common syntax language used for making websites, it's the code that web browsers read to display the information on the page. There are some tags like <[url=][/url]b>bold</[url=][/url]b>, which are currently available on these forums to staff to allow for formatting posts better.

Flash is the platform that the game and forums is built on. It can't be browsed on devices without Flash installed, which pretty much includes all mobile devices. Flash also can't be indexed by Google, or keep you logged in (am I the only one that hates clicking on all threads to mark which ones I've already read when I log on? ;; ).

BBCode stands for "Bulletin Board Code", basically code used in posts on forums. It's the [url=http://transformice.com/] stuff you see that's also used for formatting posts. Usually it just converts things to HTML though ([url=http://transformice.com/] is <a href="http://transformice.com/"> for example).

The forums aren't coded in BBCode at all, it's just a way of formatting posts. The HTML forums won't mean that will let you use HTML in your posts, just that a lot more will be possible when the site is being developed, and allowing for easier browsing/etc.

What'll likely happen on the HTML forums is that there will be more BBCodes added to simulate some commonly requested ones, such as [size=6] (<b> <i> and <font size="6"> respectively).

I hope this clears some things up, since everyone seems pretty confused about it.

Yes; but that doesnt mean it will look like CFM. The first post of this page explains a great deal what it will be like.

Again, the fact it is HTML will have no bearing on whether we can use BBcode.

I'd like to at least see some new stuff we can do, I'd be really happy with a text setup area, besides, if they transfer to HTML with no changes, really what's the point

I suppose one point would be the fact you dont have to reboot the forum every night for a simple avatar system to work.

Not to mention you could have cookies keep you permanently logged in and mark which threads you've already read.
And you could browse on mobile devices.
And you could theme it yourself with something like Stylish.
And it'd get indexed in Google so transformice.com's pagerank would go up and more people would find the game.

There's a lot of things that having an HTML forum would bring that're great.

and this is Italic :D

Maybe. If you look on html forums towards the bottom it will say
bbcode turned on
HTML turned on etc. not sure what else but its possible to remove that.
