I almost want to support it because the username Aurora was apparently taken 2+ years before I even knew micegame was a thing, but the fact remains that I still occasionally find uses for alts that I haven't logged into for over a year.
so yeah no

And would you support if you could protect your account, for example by adding an email address and getting notified if someone wants the name (after which you can accept of deny)?

What if somebody had a virus? It wouldn't be fair if they came back with no account. Also, people might think "I'm quitting" but then 2 years later see the site and remember their username and password?

Do you people read?

Like I said to many people befor, there could be something that protects ones accounts. Maby like having to pay 500 cheese or even having to at least gathered 1000 cheese.

But how about after one or so years the NAME gets deleated, but not the ACCOUNT?
And then if the person who lost their name will get a mail or something telling them to chose a new name if they try to login again. And if the person doesn't login for an additional 1-2 years the account will be deleated.

But if that happens, wouldnt someone who tried use that username get the account info, or something?

In away that you explain it, I dont see how that would work.

There are people then join Transformice everyday, a lot of them may even be alts that people wont use after that one day. Usernames are already hard to get and alot of people tend to stop playing tfm.

This suggestion is for the fact that tfm should have a 1 year auto delete.
Explanation: If a user is not logged back on with in a year, then that username will be deleted, allowing that user to be free to use for new comers who wish to sign up on tfm,

I guess we could start an endless and completely discussion on what is or isn't too long here, but I guess I have an idea or two that could make the idea more acceptable to people afraid to lose their accounts.

Mostly, there should be some forms of protection in place.

  • Accounts that have fraises should at no point in time be deleted. A801 could even advertise it as such: buy from us and we'll never prune your username.
  • Warn users with an email address registered either when they've been active for a year OR
  • Warn users with an email address, that have been inactive for "too long" when someone else would like to use their name. The original user can then accept (and have their own username deleted or changed) or reject to let someone else use their name.

Obviously, when a name switches owner, all statistics and shop currencies should be erased. It's a clean slate.

Random Idea]
-A way to save your account-
If someone is wanting there username to stay and keep on as 'locked' then they will either have to reach 1000 cheese or maby have to pay 500 cheese.(or something like that)

I've posted my thoughts on this before, but I'll refine it a bit.

Both having bought fraises and having registered an email address should protect your account from pruning without your knowledge. As far as I see it Atelier801 should require people to provide an email address anyway, especially if they become paying customers.

This then means that people can be emailed about their (inactive) account, which has at least 3 purposes.
  • To get inactive people to play again, or remember TFM if they have forgotten.
  • To (optionally) tell people about new features, new A801 stuff, etc.
  • To notify them if someone else would like to use their user name, so that they can either accept and lose their name, or decline and keep their name. This way, the account owner stays in control at all times.

Like this you won't need silly cheese payments or anything. If you register an email address, you'll get notified and if you want to keep your account, you keep it. Simple as that.

---

As for reaching a certain amount of cheese as a way of protection, this I can live with. However, the bar should be very low: if someone reaches as little as 100 cheese they should give consent if someone wants to use their name. Additionally, having more cheese gathered/rounds played should increase the time after which people can request your user name.

For example, having 0-100 cheese means people can request your name after a year.
having 100-1000 cheese: two years.
etc. etc. I'm just putting some numbers as an example, in the end it'd be up to the admins either way.

I really like this idea though, since it's just requesting, not full-out taking. So if you registered an email account you're safe? And do you have to reply back to the message with a specific wording or what? That's the only part im confused on.

As far as I see it you should only have to take action (by confirming) when you want to forfeit your user name. If you want to keep it, simply don't respond.

They said auto-delete after a year. Just come on more often. plus do vacations last a whole year?

Anyway, my thoughts are: These will clean up the cluttered small usernames that have been inactive. Then new users have more acess to more names, making them have a username easy to remeber, instead of ones that barley make any sense.

i support.

so one year account deletion? so perhaps if the person is gone for one year then somebody makes an account with the same person who deactivated there account, couldn't that lead to impersonation?

Paying to save a account shows your willing to work up to saving it, If your not willing to work to save a account, then you mine as well not have it saved.
