Well maybe there could be additional shaman abilities that change the look of the shaman?

Making the hardmode shaman name color to yellow would confuse others to think that they're the sham with glitched items. If there are 50+ mice in a room, or if you type /nue and die, you'd get confused for a second, but you WOULD realize your names are different, but still. Maybe change the name color to, say, the background color for the chatbox? Or maybe a dark yellow? Ooh, a silver would look AWESOME.

I think you should change the connections? Like the C, B planks would turn into hearts like in the valentines event.

This suggestion isn't only about "cheesy decorations" for shaman objects. It also talks about different types of shaman tattoos and a new color for the hardmode shaman's name. ^^'
