They stay private unless you or your PM partner reports it. It's like an official way instead of people sharing screenshots with us on matters concerning the PM system.

Unless you're breaking the rules, you should have no concern with this. Forum moderation only sees the one PM that is reported and not the entire conversation.
Users shouldn't be permitted to harass others through PM on the guise that "it's private."

Your private discussions, made via private messaging, will remain private unless the person you are messaging decides to report one of your messages. Sentinels cannot randomly jump into your inbox and view all your messages. In fact, if a PM is reported, we can only see that message, not the entire conversation history.

Players can 'ignore' chat messages in-game that break the rules. Forum users can ignore spam posts, or continued insulting posts. That doesn't mean we should tolerate this behaviour. With this new feature, we can verify any continued abuse of the PM system, and take actions to prevent it from continuing. Inappropriate images, insults, and spam are further examples of cases where this feature will be useful, in addition to the 'harassment' case you have highlighted.

The contents of reported messages will not be used for any other purpose other than to determine whether the PM system is being abused. The contents will remain strictly confidential, and not shared with anybody outside of the Sentinel team who isn't involved with handling the report.

And as I stated, unless you're breaking the rules, you should have no concern with this.

I think it's more of the fact that many of us have things we hide from the public eye in private PM's maybe that stuff doesn't break the rules but I personally don't like the potential for a sentinel to be able to see that stuff.

It shouldn't matter if we're breaking the rules or not, either way, this is concerning, and the argument that "if you're not breaking the rules you should have nothing to worry about" never works, just look at real life, that's that's literally just the ideal situation in a totalitarian society, because the government (or in this case the staff) should be able to see everything about you apparently, but oh, no one should worry, they're not going to do anything unless it "breaks the rules." So yeah, it's not a matter of if it breaks the rules or not, it's the idea that with a report, they could potentially be going through our PM's.

I personally don't like it but I don't feel the admins will change this update, as you said earlier, many forums do this. So I plan on just using a 3rd party PM system over the forums for anything I only want the person receiving seeing, maybe Skype.

They should be able to moderate PMs, without a doubt in my opinion. At least they're trying to keep everyone's privacy though by making sure they only see the reported post(s), and even then you shouldn't expect privacy over the forums regardless -- That's just the way it is. If you want privacy don't use the forums, use a third party program that's actually meant for that kind of stuff.

The only people I really see worried about this update are the ones who are more than likely to break the rules or harass someone through PMs, given that's why it's here in the first place.

People already sent us screenshots when they wanted a PM dealt with, all this does is let us confirm it's real and take action where necessary. It's up to the people in the PM to report it or not - it's not like any additional information is shared that people weren't giving in the form of screenshots in the first place.

Anyone with common sense will know that adding a report system for PMs is a necessity. I genuinely do not know ANY other forum that doesn't have a report system for PMs.

Arguments about 'totalitarianism' are irrelevant and quite frankly making a mountain out of a molehill. The only people who need to be worried are those who are breaking the rules. And even if a PM is reported wrongly and the sentinels get to see them, so what? They're the people looking after the forums, they're thus the most trustworthy people to let see them.

I only hope that you will consider for important matter that happens into the forum, the ban will be merger into the game also.

Last I heard this was a thing actually. Is it still one?

I have my reason think that is not anymore, and that some sanction needs to be revised tbh.

To this end I'd like to talk with some open to dialogue staff member about that.
