Chowsea a dit :
This is a long post so, tl;dr: lots of depression and suicide in my life.

I'm 18 now, and since I was very small I've been a victim of chronic depression. There was no diagnosis until a few years ago, but when I look back now I understand exactly why I was the way I was. I was shy, I would never speak to anyone, I would lock myself in my room and refuse to socialize by the time I was, like, 7. I often thought about suicide but was too young to understand it. I never dressed like a typical girl and so from a young age I was subject to intense bullying. All throughout grade school and high school I was severely bullied for being different, having different views, dressing differently, caring about more than how my nails looked or who's dating who. When I was 10 I started cutting myself, and finally after about 6 years my school guidance counsellors realized the problem and set me up with a therapist. I was the usual "therapy is bullshit, I don't need this crap" kind of person. But it wasn't the typical therapy. They validated my feelings when no one else would. I went to a group therapy session that wasn't us sitting around talking about cutting ourselves, but counsellors teaching us about psychology and emotions and how to effectively cope. I was amazed at how much progress I made the moment I put my arms down and let them help me. Two years later, I still occassionally cut and I still fall into depressions if things get too bad, but I am generally happy now, I'm engaged to a wonderful person, I still see my counsellor every two weeks and I'm still on anti-depressants to keep things regular so I don't regress. I'm not cured, but I rarely think about suicide anymore.

In 2009 I became best friends with a boy who was just like me, but instead of using razorblades he used lighters or matches. He had been in and out of institutions, to countless therapists and on numerous medications his whole life and he never got better. I really loved him like a brother. Then in August 2010 he doused his car in gasoline, got inside and lit it on fire. He got no publicity, his name wasn't mentioned on any news program, the only thing he got was an obituary. After that, I went into the deepest depression I think is possible. I tried to kill myself, too. But my counsellors are what saved me. And seeing what Jordan's passing did to me, his family, and the friends he didn't believe he had, as much as I wanted to end my life I couldn't do that to the few who still cared about me. And now I'm proud of who I am, I'm not ashamed of anything that's happened in my past or anything I've done.

All of this Amanda Todd crap makes me crazy. I hate how much publicity she is getting. Of course it's sad, of course the situation could have and should have been avoided, but this shit happens EVERY DAY. And everywhere I look, people are going on about how sad this particular case is and how they'd never take part in any of the bullying. And the people who are saying these things are complete fuckjobs who used to bully ME. I can't stand it. Jordan got nothing. His life and his death were excrutiating and nobody cared. It sounds like jealousy, and maybe it is, I don't know. But crying about Amanda Todd isn't going to help the hundreds of kids all around us that are going through the exact same thing, you know?

Soo true :O
A similer thing happened to me actualy (besides the whole suicide thingy) once I was dating this guy, but we both lived in different countrys so it was online dating, he used to talk about suicide ALL the time :/
And then one day he disappeared, I had started worring he commited suicide but then he came back...
And then the day after he disappeared again, and I still haven't heard from him to this day :/

I remember a thread like this on the old forums... if I remember correctly, reception to that thread was generally negative. The community may be very different and even worse than before, but at least we're somewhat improving, now that I haven't seen one post that was like 'AMGG EVERYONE THAT POSTS ON HERE IS A LOSSEERRR' or 'dis thread sux'.

There was this one occaision in my school, a couple of boys were just joking about a boy, not knowing that he was very sensitive. So the boy that was teased told the principal and the boys that made fun of him got suspended for 2 or so days. When they came back, the boy that got teased was scared that it was going to get worse. Instead, he got a little bag of gifts and an apology from all of them because they didn't know he was sensitive.

Also, at my school, clothes or hair don't matter. All you need is a nice personnality. All the "popular" kids in my school spend their spare time volunteering and most of them have good grades. I wish all the schools could be like this...it would make the world so much better.

That'd be nice! If someone reports another kid for bullying here, they can expect to be bullied tenfold by all of the bullies' friends. Lots of times they'll be thrown into fights or called very degrading words (such as p*ssy) for being too soft. So most people don't report it around here. When I was in ninth grade, the worst year for the bullying, my brother contacted one of his friends who was ENORMOUS and doing grade 12 for a second year. He helped me out by scaring the kids who bullied me, but it only worked for a little before they realized he wouldn't actually do anything because, you know, abuse charges.

I see it as my goal to transform my world into that. Setting the trend to make serving others cool.

o_o wow.

At my school, we don't have popular people. We have people that are less popular than others yes, but it's not really like a hiearchy here. We have groups that mingle with similar groups in different classes. We have small groups that are only 4-5 people. We have the people that eat by themselves.

Anyways, at our school, they are NOT like that. They're very passive when it comes to bullying. The worst they give is a slap on the wrist usually, even if it's really bad cases. They rarely use detention as a punishment and they give a ton of second chances when it comes to bullying. However, they're incredibly harsh with stuff such as lack of proper uniform or ID. Logic at its finest.

Face it, guys. There will never be an end to bullying as long as there are such things as emotions, feelings, personalities, and the human race.
