In my opinion, noob is no longer used to refer to a new player. Noob is now used as an insult towards the ones that screw up or they're not doing a good job at a specific activity, despite the date when they joined or started, while Newbie is the correct term for a new player. It is true that noob comes from the word newbie/newb, but it's slowly losing its' real meaning. For this reason I prefer calling new players 'newbies' rathen than 'noobs'. As some people might say: "The only person who's a noob is the one who calls others like that.'

Pro is obviously someone with high stats, a player that knows how to play the game. Doesn't necessarily need to be the first in the hole all the time. It's simply someone who knows how the game works.

Pro is short for Professional, which implies that they get paid to play well.
IMO not a very good phrase to use when referring to someone that is particularly good at a game.

And I agree with Sabusha on the Noob part - it's only really used as an insult if someone messes up, doesn't really have any place now other than that.

Noob:

1_ Doesn't know how to play the game.
2_ Doesn't have much experience.

Pro:

1_ Had been playing for a looooong time.
2_ Has a lot of experience and can do anything.

There are six categories;

Noobest Noob - A new player with a bad attitude.

Noob - A new player OR a player which is not skilled on something. (Normal)

Proest Noob - The top noob of all noobs. (Also a compliment for being a Pro)


Noobest Pro - A skilled player but has bad attitude.

Pro - A player which is skilled on something. (Normal)

Proest Pro - The top pro of all pros.

Noob-Person that doesn't know how to play

pro- anyone who completes a map in a somewhat impressive manner every once in a while
rusher- a name less experienced players use to, for lack of a better word, demean more experienced players for attempting to complete a map in an impressive manner; the people who usually get first

Noob: A player that's been on the game long enough and should be able to know how to play the game by now, but doesn't.

Pro: A person that's good at the game.

I always thought that "newbie" meant they were new, not noob...
