Hey there! I'm back with possibly the last update to this thread :^) It's literally been 2 years since I updated this, but I wanted to bring closure to this thread and my mapmaking journey. Without further ado, here we go! "New" Perms from the past 2 years (since August 12, 2022) in no particular order Stovedove#0000 - @7956507 - P3 I am incredibly proud of this map. Never thought I'd be able to get a bootcamp perm, let alone a P3 perm. Felt like making a funny bootcamp map and spent an hour just playing around before I figured I could theme the map around disabling treadmills with the ice effect. Made each part one by one and 4 hours later, I had a product. Super unpolished, but it was a start. (First draft was @7955683). I playtested it myself, and with other players, polishing it, and came to this version. Editor was broken during this time, so there's like 10 different map codes for this one map. Huge thanks to Aaryaaaaaaaa#1102 with too many a's for giving me ideas and helping me really turn this map into what it is now. Stovedove#0000 - @7952171 - P18 This map was made for the mini defilante mapmaking contest back in April 2024. The theme was to use honey, and so I made a defilante map with honey. Honey is hard to use in defilante, since adding friction makes everything sticky and it easily breaks the flow of the map. I used the honey in this map to activate the treadmills to get to higher areas in the map. Layout is a little different compared to what I usually do as it has weirder angles and these triangles which I tried to make a theme with. Time constraints prevented me from polishing this completely, and I wish I could make the map flow better so you can just walk on the grass even with the honey effect, but for the most part, it works as a map. It also won 2nd place in the contest, so that was nice :^) Stovedove#0000 - @7959562 - P18 Ohh man, this map. In my mind, I wanted players to head down a tube and play completely underground for the rest of the map, but that really restricted the area I could use for gameplay. As a result, I decided I could just a really sophisticated split-path map. This is the result. Took around 5 hours straight of working in the editor (about an hour was spent on the trash can alone xD). I really love this map for the tribe house vibe, and just the variety of paths to take. You can start with the clouds and go through the attic, or enter the house normally, or go through the trash can and enter the sewers. You can jump on the beds if you want more points, or shoot up the fountain for a nice bonus. You can even go through the sink in the bathroom to head underground. This was just a super fun (and pretty complicated) map to build overall and even if players don't ever notice the underground portion, I'm still happy players get to play this. Stovedove#0000 - @7913094 - P41 (Hardcamp Difficulty 3) This one's actually a bit of an old one. Back when I was more interested in harder difficulty maps, I tried to make stuff for hardcamp. This one was just me playing around with what I could do with 1 gigantic sticky ground that covered over half of the map. Turns out I can do some pretty funny stuff. I question how I even managed to find the first cheese chain. It got permed, and I was surprised it was put as difficulty 3/4. I would've thought it's 2/4, but I guess it can be pretty confusing if you've never seen it before. Stovedove#0000 - @7942228 - P41 (Parkour) This was one of the first maps I made with the honey grounds when they were released. I wanted to use the new mechanic in as many interesting ways as possible, and this was the result. Each checkpoint (I think) has its own unique obstacle that I hoped showcased honey in a different way. Oh, and it also was easily the hardest parkour map in rotation when it was permed (although it definitely isn't as hard compared to newer maps in 2024). Stovedove#0000 - @7942934 - P41 (Parkour) Just as with the release of honey, the release of modified water provided plenty of new ideas for parkour maps. One mechanic was duck jumping, which provided all sorts of crazy interactions with the water. Super super clean design for this map in my opinion, and one that I think is pretty cool. Stovedove#0000 - @7944603 - P41 (Parkour) Ok, this map is wild. I would say that I can utilize sticky grounds pretty well in my maps, and so I wanted to make another map with these grounds. I drew inspiration from Gobbek's maps with rectangle sticky grounds, and managed to come up with this. I like the gameplay with this one, but I'll admit, the pathing on this was not the best. I tried my hardest to make it as clear as possible, but it was rough. I think it's okay in the end though. Visually looks cool, and pretty fun to play when you get the hang of it. Stovedove#0000 - @7944761 - P41 (Parkour) It's the Choco map. Astute players will have noticed the Blank and Tocu maps in parkour. I made those as a challenge to see if I could turn people's names into maps (and as a thank you for Blank#3495 and Tocutoeltuco#0000 for running the module). I figured I could do 1 more name map, and also to show Chocojell#0000 that I am a competent mapmaker :^). But seriously, constrained mapmaking can be fun, and working around Choco's name literally made with choco makes this a pretty memorable map. Stovedove#0000 - @7945737 - P41 (Divinity Difficulty 6) Divinity has some wild maps in rotation. Notably there are some acid cage maps that look insane. I liked the look of the anticloud acid, and so wanted to make some divinity maps to challenge the divinity players (you know who you are). This one was pretty lazy, but I figured it would be interesting. People played it, and it turns out it can be quite the struggle, although the builders know how to tackle it pretty well now. I don't know who permed it since divinity hasn't done an official review for like 2 years, but it got permed, and it's in rotation as a difficulty 6; I won't complain. In the end, I've cooked quite a few maps up that I'm super happy with. Despite slowing down my mapmaking (only having 100 codes in the past 2 years compared to 500), it's obvious that my mapmaking has improved significantly. I'll still be in the community as long as I feel welcome. Enjoy the process, wherever it takes you. Until we meet again, on the forums, in game, or elsewhere <3 Updates to the Original Post
