Rayne saw Kuri and Ami sitting around a small fire and she smiled. –Might as well say hello- She thought, and stepped into the little clearing.

Kuri jumped, dropping the pan she was about to put on the fire for cooking. She jumped to her feet and in five seconds she was up in Rayne's face with her sword, poking it on her cheek “How did you get in here without me sensing you!?”

"Whoa there, put the sword away kid. Good for you to react so quickly, but please I don’t want to be skewered." Rayne said, pushing the sword away from her face.

Kuri glared, “You didn’t answer my question.”

Rayne sighed. “I don’t know, magic? And seriously, put the sword away please, I’m not going to hurt you or Ami.”

Kuri sheathed her sword and crossed her arms whispering under her breath. "I really wanted to fight someone though." Ami heard this and glared at her intensely.

Then turning to Rayne she said "-I hope you can cook Rayne- Good to see you Rayne, -do you by chance have any food that is not so uncooked you can still see blooding gushing out- want to join us –for our raw dinner- tonight?" Ami smiled at her.

Rayne raised an eyebrow “I’ve got my own food but I wouldn’t mind staying for tonight. I have some dried apricots, you want some?” She said reaching into her food bag and pulling out a little package.

Ami reached for it but Kuri knocked her hand out of the way. “What are you thinking?! Don’t accept food from her it might be poisoned!” Kuri glared at Rayne. Her eyes widened when she realized that Rayne was laughing!

Shaking her head Rayne stopped laughing and looked Kuri straight in the eye, suddenly serious. “I wouldn’t do that kid, I don’t kill people for fun okay? I’m not a monster.” Rayne opened her bags and showed them the contents. “See? Nothing evil or poisonous in here, nothing that will kill you or give you nightmares.”

She sat down and pulled out a container full of colorful berries. “Well nothing except these, these’ll kill you. Don’t even touch them,” Rayne took out a shining purple berry. “And don’t ever eat them, no matter what.” She said popping the berry into her mouth. Ami and Kuri just watched her eat the berries when suddenly, it dawned on them.

Kuri’s eyes widened as she realized the truth. “You’re… A dragon?”

Rayne picked out a pale pink berry this time and winked at the two. “Vigilant, wary, and quick to see through things, you’re a jack of all trades. Good thing too, anyway yes, yes I am.” Ami smiled, completely elated about a dragon being in their company. Dragons help make amazing potions, and maybe Rayne wouldn’t mind sharing a strand of hair or maybe a scale if she has any.

Kuri continued with the cooking, placing some deer meat in the pan and held it over the fire. She started counting to one hundred so she would know when to pull the meat away from the pan before it burnt. Ami watched her, her face slightly green at the thought of the “Kuri specialty”.

She turned to Rayne and asked quietly “Can I please have those apricots. Please.” Rayne chuckled and gave her the package with the dried apricots when Kuri wasn’t looking.

After a few more berries Rayne put the container back into the bag. She put her arms behind her head and closed her eyes.

Ami finished half of the bag of dried fruit and when Kuri offered her some “perfectly cooked” meat she was able to say “Oh no, I’m not very hungry.” Kuri shrugged and just ate the food herself while Ami resisted gagging at the little red juice dribbling down Kuri’s chin.

She stood up and walked over to where her little tent was. Ami wrapped the dried apricots up and put them in her potion bag before crawling into the tent.

She poked her head out of the little opening. “Night Kuri, night Rayne.” She said. Rayne opened one eye and nodded at her before closing it again. Kuri smiled at Ami mouthing “night Amidoodles”.
Ami brought her head back in and curled up in her soft fluffy sheep dotted blanket.
