It seems some people were expecting this contest to churn out the best maps in Transformice. The problem is the expectations if anything. It's just a contest, and not a serious one. With an award of 800 cheese for first, I don't really see any motivation behind creativing something spectacular.

It's not just a problem of submissions, but also a problem of choice. I think better maps were available for top 3 in almost all categories. Yes, i've tested all submissions. And honestly, i don't think the prize should be the main motivation, but it should be instead a battle of the most clever map design. There have been contests in the past with almost no reward and people still made more effort to make good maps than here.

I have actually run map maker contest for months (pretty much by myself, too) and everyone who was around at the time can tell you it used to be a huge success, which cannot be said for some of the map crew contests. I don't really care about my map, either. This time around the contest results are just awful. Even tigrounette could have picked better winners.

I largely agree with this. I looked through category 2 and there were a handful of good maps in category 2 that didn't make it into the shortlist, and could have even won. I am a member of the contest crew but due to changes in how we go through submissions, it's more difficult for me to go through them now (due to not being able to P1 maps).

I'm happy that some maps got their deserved recognition, such as Scenery's map, but some of these winning maps just shouldn't have even gotten into the shortlist. Mougou's map got through because it created "a good atmosphere". Well neither the art nor the gameplay on that map is even half decent so I hardly think that it's even a good map.

If you run your own map maker contest, why do you even bother coming here rage?
Contest results were awful (Except scenerys and moripogis), I can say that. But if all the same map makers would win over and over again, that would be awful too, amirite?

The point is though, that when Mollo ran the monthly contest, it was way better.
Now it's awfull.

Seriously, I'm not a big fan of those environment maps myself, but they seemed to be the best when I went through all the maps in that category for my own curiousity.
Haven't checked the other categories, so can't tell and nor I participated on judging due to other stuff irl. But I'm sure the other guys in the crew picked the best ones.
Maybe you have different opinions. But here you have the winners of each category, shouldn't compare these maps to current p4-9's level.

Not to seem rude but Plaus' map shouldn't really of won category 2. I like the gameplay and all but I'm just wondering if he/she 'stole' my idea of graveyard in the first place, but probably didn't. Not trying to accuse.

I seem to agree with many other posts; These maps aren't really contest like. I mean some of them are really good; but....ITS A SUMMER CONTEST NOT A HOLIDAY CHEERY NEED 6JACKETS TIME. I think about over half these maps have the Christmas background/has the winterfeeling. Cause all I need is to be reminded on how stupid people are celebrating christmas 365/366 days a year. Not being mean or judgemental mind you; i'm just saying:
WHY HOLD A SUMMER CONTEST FOR SUMMER WHEN THE WINNERS MADE WINTER MAPS? TOTAL CONFUSION. And some of these I have played (one imparticular [the one with out the image{known as a fail maze map}]) shouldn't of have won. one reason on this map why i hate it: You have a sham yet they can't build-even worse on hard mode :\ and so much lag cause they decided to cover up alot of it having to move it out of the way. But some of the winners did deserve it; In my opinion Fixie deserved it; Reason why is that look at her maps on cheese.formice.com and her art she draws for others. Even if it wasn't for those its a good map. But about 70% of these just no...no...and as Mollo said:
