Question: are we allowed to use things like treadmill grounds and other non-standard mechanics? Vanilla doesn't have it's own set of "rules" to follow, and this thread doesn't really give any to follow regarding what sort of mechanics we can and cannot use.

Also, should we try to keep map size the standard 800x400 or can we make it larger? Cheese thief maps in particular might be more interesting if we could make them bigger.

You're allowed to use whatever you desire in your map, as long as there's no rule in the contest against it. But it's to be noted that the further you would stray from existing concepts in Vanilla, then the less the map would fit into the category, and as a consequence it would (probably) be less likely to be chosen.

However, there has been unique concepts making it into the Vanilla rotation through contests previously (Map 150 is an example), but this is only if the concept is really exceptional, and of course if it fits (closely enough) to the Vanilla style.
