I agree with most of what you're saying there, but what about the kids who don't have a parent to keep an eye on them? I had full, unmonitored internet use when I first joined, and I'm usually the one supervising my brother. Not everyone has a parent/guardian to watch out for them, I certainly didn't. |

I agree with most of you but, I just joined tfm to have friends cos I dont have friends to play with a lot. My mother always check her facebook in the same laptop im using so maybe she also looks at me playing. I only use minor swearing, but, i dont use major swearing anymore like in 2013. Edit: Also I only do jokes and funny stuff in the forum games also in some roleplays in tfm. Dernière modification le 1419554880000 |

I don't get it, kids who have a maturity high enough level aren't allowed? I understand that now, Three year olds are having phones and tech is advancing as we speak but do you think we need to give them a bit of respect and understanding? Not to judge them just because of their age. |

I’ve been lurking this thread for a while now, and have decided to post my opinion quickly before it fades away again. Mind you, I believe I should first introduce the perspective this is coming from. I would’ve been considered “under-aged” when I joined the game in 2010. Now, however, I am no longer under-aged. In general, I don’t think it is necessarily age that is a problem; more-so the level of maturity people often display through the internet. I’d say there are many contributing factors though. Forgive me as I try to weave my tangled web of thoughts on the matter into words; I’ve never been great at expressing my opinions and thoughts in ways that actually make sense. This will probably end up being a huge wall of text…. A little bit of backstory; I’ve played on many of the little social games aimed at kids. There was a dark period of my life where I was one of those obnoxious, immature kids. I started cursing and passing around the filter, and just overall being annoying. I actually got the method of going around the filter for said game from a “friend” I met online. Simply put, I’m ashamed of that period in my life. I was overall, a horrible person to talk to. And the thing is, I had considered myself very mature and smart back then. Being influenced negatively can happen to anyone. And one of the worse things was, for a while, I blamed the friend for that time. In reality, while she shouldn’t have behaved like that, I shouldn’t have followed suit. That was entirely my fault; I have no one else to blame. I guess I was just starving for attention. I had trouble in the outside world communicating with people; I was shy and and overall awkward person to be with. However, with the kids people complain about, it’s probably because they were never taught to behave better. With the ride of the internet, social media, and technology, many kids are getting access to these things at a very young age. However, they are never taught how to behave over the internet. One of the main issues, I believe, is parenting. In my experience, a lot of parents use technology and social media to distract their kids, so the parent can get some time in peace. While, yes, parenting is a tiring job, and breaks are needed, this is a recipe for disaster. The kinds of parents that do this, in my experience, are the kinds of parents that spoil their kids and don’t teach them discipline and patience. I’ve seen this happen a little too often. Parents should watch what their children do over the internet; otherwise the kid could get influenced in terrible ways. The parent should watch over their child until the parent thinks their child has become trustworthy and mature enough to manage themselves; often which correlates to becoming older. However, age doesn’t always correlate with maturity. After all, I’ve met teachers with the temper of a five year old. Unfortunate thing is, I don’t think I can tell these teachers that without getting in trouble… Another issue is the anonymity of the internet. Many abuse it; thinking they can get away with everything, which in a sense, can be true. Many don’t seem to remember that even though you’re not talking to someone face to face, there is still someone on the other side of the screen. I’ve heard many say “It’s the internet, deal with it.” when someone is offended by something rude said by someone else. That is not an excuse for someone to be rude, internet or not. Obviously, being too sensitive isn’t healthy for anyone, but I don’t tolerate attacking others on the internet. It’s immature and makes the place way more unpleasant. Maybe if people just treated the internet more like real life, in the sense you don’t insult people randomly in real life do you? No, because you’d look like an undignified barbarian with no concept of what manners are. Maybe if kids were taught, from a very young age, how to behave both in real life, and on the internet, it would better for everyone. From the start, people being taught how to behave is a decent beginning, at least for the next generations, as technology and the internet’s widespread use grows and grows. I think the internet is a wonderful place with so much potential for good. I’ve met so many lovely people, and read many interesting opinions on matters. I apologize for the essay, I just thought with a topic like this, it’s always nice to have a wide variety of perspectives. Thank you if you took the time to read this all. Note: I didn't really proof read this(too lazy) so....apologies. |

Well yea. Thats just how tfm is. Any ages can join. Its same on other games too. Maybe some people put fake ages and they were about 10 or so But it could be a game for kids and adults. You can talk free (they censor the swearing and put stuff like !@# and stuff for some words) But you can buy rainbow dash hair and cute things like that. |

rayzord a dit : Like that post Rayzord said when she pm me. Its not about the age. Its about the maturedness. Even a 17 year old with a very immature, childish and annoying attitude will be complaint about. Well, every one of any age can join this game. Because the internet is a nice place to make friends. Although half of some people were annoyed and affected of swearing, half of people didn't mind it at all. But to make it short, what i'm trying to say is swearing is part of the game. Its more like EVERY ONLINE GAME. I suggest that they put a censor like Songspirit said. So, kids wont absorb any inappropriate language from online games everywhere . Just like the game Woozworld. They have censors there. OFF TOPIC: Sorry about my grammar. English is not my first language Dernière modification le 1419736200000 |

I am quite annoyed by the abundance of kids ages ten and under, as they typically act immature, perverted, "badass", etc. I mean, I myself am eleven as of October, but seriously? Do you think rape jokes are funny? How about racial slurs? Or maybe even religion jokes? No. None of them are funny, and in fact they're mostly rather offensive. I understand there is a rule that states this is a 13+ game, but I'm pretty sure there's also a rule that says you can join at any age with parental permission. Of course, I'm positive that no one actually asked their parents, especially the ones who act so immature. By immature, I mean the people who cause drama, cuss in almost EVERY sentence, crack unfunny and inappropriate jokes repeatedly, troll, purposely cause fights and spread rumors, etc. It's just absurd; I'm pretty sure the immature players are the majority of TFM. And also, I don't see why some people complain about too much cussing. 1) There is a filter in the settings. 2) This is a freechat game, allowing cussing. 3) What did you expect, a game full of sunshine and rainbows? I'm not saying older people aren't immature too, because a lot of them are. Like that group of people in the cafe who call anyone who likes anime a weeaboo, and anyone who likes MLP a clopper, and anyone who reads Warriors or likes any animals furries. I'm certain most of them are about twelve, except for one who's name I will not mention. I'm sick and tired of this. How hard is it to act as your supposed to? |

Whoa guys. Please read this CAREFULLY. Guys. I had enough of this now. REALLY enough. I noticed in most of your comments about kids ten and under doing rape jokes, ebola jokes, religion jokes, having perverted and dirty minds. But that's because some older people and some teens kind of influent them with bad languages and other stuff. They learned to say bad languages because they tried to fit in. Then you guys complaint them? For being immature? No! Seriously! This is how this Too many under aged problem started: First, they were innocent kids playing. Second, some teens influenced them with bad language and example. Third, they learned being dirty minded and spoke bad language. Fourth, their dirty minds expanded into ebola jokes, rape jokes, racism, and other things. LASTLY, you guys are complaining about them and told them that they should GET OFF THE INTERNET!!?? Guys, even if you want this or not, this happened and will keep happening if you dont ignore younger kids or stop cussing too much. By "Stop cussing too much" I mean you can still cuss but not too much. I am really annoyed about this. Its chaotic that it will keep expanding and there will be much more complaints. |

haruhitastic a dit : I use /ignore a lot. I have over 100 people on my ignore list, and I'm not pleased with that. Yes, I know the game is 13 +, although younger kids will join no matter what. When I joined, I didn't see anything saying it's 13+. Some teenagers don't like fighting, inappropriate conversations, swearing, or mean things. It's not only the young kids. queenlordess a dit : ^ this is excellent. I completely agree with Queenlordess Dernière modification le 1419823020000 |

reddiex a dit : Well, that's one case. If many are doing this, it should be looked at and taken into account. COPPA only applies to American kids if I read it correctly. We can't always be there to be held accountable and eventually an adult will catch wind of bad behavior among some "adolescents" and might get sued. Not saying it's a bad thing that there are many kids flocking over to this game, it's only troubling because there are some bad attributes to any online game that doesn't have a pre-worded filter chat box. Just look at some of the Cafe topics. |

wolfytu a dit : I don't think a game that was made popular by adults could ever be considered to be a game for kids. I joined when I was 15 and back then I felt like the odd one out. It's also pretty rude to assume that if an adult is playing this they must be immature. This is just a video game and another way to pass the time and I don't think anyone appreciates being called immature for enjoying a video game, I certainly don't. queenlordess a dit : Nah, that's not how it started. Transformice is in no way unique when it comes to the amount of swearing, homophobia, racism, etc that happens in public rooms. Little kids will see that stuff all over the Internet (have you ever even glanced at the comments section on YouTube?) so it's kind of silly that you seem to be implying that they're learning it all from the chat on this game. There's no point in trying to censor that, we already have an optional chat filter and the option to ignore someone if you don't like what they're saying and I'm glad that that's as far as they've taken it. If swearing really bothers these kids that much they really shouldn't be on the Internet, not just Transformice. Plus this site is already so understaffed as it is. I can't see moderators being able to handle having to deal with reports of swearing on top of the reports they already have to deal with. I don't think there's a point in reinforcing the 13+ rule either as it wouldn't stop underaged people from joining – I know this from experience having been an 11 year old who quickly figured out on my own that it is very easy to lie about my age, in my case it was so that I could use the forum part of Neopets. Obviously if someone posted about being under 13 they would have their rights to this part of the site removed by a moderator, but there was still a good number of us. We were just quiet about it. Of course it also wouldn't be fair to those who have been playing this game and enjoying the chat feature as an underaged player if the admins were to suddenly decide to kick them all off or take the chat away from them. I don't really even see how that could be enforced unless they asked us all to enter in our birthdays...which I wouldn't be happy about even as someone who would be unaffected by that rule. I admit that sometimes I am annoyed with the large about of children that play this game and its effect on the chat and gameplay. However I think the biggest problem is really whether or not these kids are being taught about the dangers of sharing personal info...sometimes I wonder if the kids I see in the chat asking everyone where they live and what their ages are and sharing their own location and age have gotten that lesson yet. Most of us older folk know that there are children who have had horrible things happen to them as a result of their actions online. I'm pretty sure that legally that's why the 13+ rule is in the TOS to begin with. All I'm seeing in this thread is "I'm ___ years old but I'm very mature for my age and I don't swear" and "People shouldn't swear because little kids are here!" but has anyone considered the potential danger that private rooms and the whisper system could put younger players in who don't know better? That's really what makes me wary every time I see someone saying that they're 8. Dernière modification le 1419871380000 |
