You guys may not know it, but the 13+ thing is for your own good. Younger people can be influenced easily, not all, but a decent amount. The attitude of a lot of the community is poor and the admins most likely don't want the younger players to take after them. By the age of 13 most people have developed their brain enough to understand situations in multiple perspectives.

I agree. A lot of my friends are 9-10 years old and some of 9-10 years old friends that I have is good and not acting badly like slutty Miley Cyrus. Well transformice should update and kids need permisson and get their parent/grandparent and have Email. When they make a account. they should put email on, then variey your account. OR ask a parent.

Lol, while I get your point; don't slut shame please. If Miley wants to wag her ass around that's her own business and you shouldn't judge her on it. Nobody is better than the other for acting one way either.

Yes, exactly. I know when I was ten/eleven I would easily try to act like others to "be cool," and some if it involved.. well not like, swearing, but trying to act snotty like some of the older Neopets players I had met. It just happens. It's childhood. By fourteen I came into my own person.

As many people already stated, how would Atelier 801 know you're lying about your age? It'd be about impossible.
Anyway, I enjoy Transformice, and if it said I couldn't play, I'd go raging.

I'm going to quote replies I think are correct.

birdluv a dit :
I feel it's all based on maturity. I wouldn't be bothered if a 7 year old could use proper grammar and punctuation.

they do have private rooms for a reason /o

Yes. So true <3 However the grammar and other stuff isn't really how mature one is. It's a fraction of it.

phanghuang a dit :
People under than 13 should be allowed to play tfm. How about they disable the chat for kids under 13? Plus it is easy to lie about your age lol

I already mentioned the last part in my post, but it's all true still.
Imjustgood a dit :
Anything happens on the internet when it wants, and does what it wants. Deal with it.

This so much.
sherrwagn a dit :
If they had to enter an age they would most likely just lie about it, plus if this happened then Transformice would lose 80% of its players

Once again, already mentioned.

This is a message from a 10 year old girl.

Peace!

I'm not sure, but when TFM used to have that "Terms and Conditions" pop-up after every log-in there used to be a line which said something like "players under the age of 18 must ask for their parents permission before playing". (At least that's what my friends always used to quote whenever we came across some particularly bratty young children in our room). Those were the days, tbh. lol.. Most of the people I personally knew back in the day were over 20 - however, I did happen to befriend a 7 year old in my first year of playing! Back when the old guys used to dominate, the young players (no matter how skilled) usually remained quiet in public chat and proved to be quite agreeable/likeable when they chose to speak. Of course there were the blatant loud-mouths, but they were far few in numbers and were often too outnumbered to bother anyone (esp. when vote-banning was at it's peak!).

As for kids being tainted on here due to "dirty" language.. well, they'll always find other sites with similar - if not worse - language if they're curious enough. Some will ignore it and continue playing, some will be intrigued, and others will just find it plain inappropriate and leave. There isn't really a reliable way of obtaining the age of every player. It's really the parents' job to guide their youngsters to the age-appropriate sites if TFM isn't suitable for them, imo. In fact, they should probably be paying more attention to their kids if they're spending a lot of time on here!

Your friend was quoting the wrong thing. The 18+ is only if A801 ever produces something with adult content; which lets face reality, they won't

I'd say being underaged on this game isn't too much of a problem - if you know what you're gonna end up being exposed to by other players. I, myself was 10 when I first joined this game. I'm not gonna lie - I was one of those people who used "XD" at the end of every sentence and "LOL" and "NOOB", without really understanding what I was saying, just trying to fit in. By the time people started actually knowing my age, they took advantage of that and showed me some.. pretty fucked up stuff, if I say so myself, as well as a good amount of harrassment ((underaged users weren't as common back in 2011 as far as I know)). I was gonna add more to this, but it isn't necessary.
TL;DR: as long as they know what they're gonna see here and the sort of things they'll have said to them - let the younger players do what they want, they'll probably mature over time ((perhaps a really long time)).

I don't really mind the younger audience around TFM; it is, at the core of everything, a cheese collecting game full of cute mice graphics that you can dress up. Not quite the pinnacle of maturity, so I understand why there are people under 13 playing.

It'd be a bad move to try and suddenly stop people 13 and under from playing. They may or may not be contributing to fraises sales through their parents, and generally a bigger audience = better for a game.

If anything, I think it's more important to stress blocking/reporting (by this I mean teaching players how to report immediately if somebody's trying to PM them with weird things) and maybe slightly more "strict" rules. Cussing really isn't an issue, it's going to happen, but I would like to see TFM try to handle harassment and inappropriate jokes (such as rape ones) better. The way some people act on TFM is ridiculous, and they only influence the behavior of the kids that do play. As a company/game, there needs to be some way to counteract that, or else the younger kids will just think "it's cool to call people whores!"

By the end of all this, you're not going to stop people from getting on TFM. It's far too easy to lie about ages online, so my best suggestion is that there's more of an effort to moderate and tackle things in the actual gaming experience (and I don't necessarily mean the sexual innuendos or cussing, but things that are more severe/extreme.)

well, little 8 year olds are playing this because theres no 13+ sign on the menu. they dont see it anywhere...
but then, as miilkychan said, some younger kids are more sensible than the older ones.
for example, Im only ten and i still act quite sensible in-game.
but then teens are probally swearing and talking about private parts :P

I'm 20 year's old and the fact that there are so many under aged people! It's becoming a disease that is spreading for example many people think I'm 12 for the reason how I not write with full grammar within the game. This is because they are underaged themselves who think there are no mature people like me within the game. I think this is a catastrophe, people need to respect their elders and not become a mindless toddler in game.

I think it's more that sloppy grammar gives the impression that you're younger/immature, not necessarily because the players themselves are underaged or think that there aren't any mature people in the game. Besides, there's no real way to let everyone you meet in tfm know that you're a "mature adult" since there's no age setting and the way you speak isn't indicative of your age.

I have seen many people, both young and older, who are rude and immature. Your age is not necessarily an accurate indicator of your maturity (as several people have pointed out), and while it is true that there is a tendency for under-aged players to be less polite/mature/etc, calling the prevalence of their age group "a disease" is rather unnecessary.

While you seem to believe that the main downside of younger players' prevalence is their lack of respect for older players in particular, I think it is their lack of respect for the players and the game in general that is the issue here.

Yeah, I learnt how to swear at a very wrong age (Good thing my parents stopped it at the right time! :D)

And yes, I am -13 age but I don't cuss a lot. I feel a bit mature then other kids and try to be friendly in tfm. At first, I was sorta spammy at the time, but now I'm ok. I try to help new players and try to motivate them to play the game now :)

Which is why I think many of us simply ignore the chat box 99% of the time nowadays.
