I have a question regarding the event items, do we have to get them personally? I just got some 25 more knobs but when I check the event map, it doesn't say I completed it. Is this a minor glitch or on purpose?

Yes, you have to get them personally in the different maps in order to fulfill those tasks. Although I think it's meant to be like that, on purpose.
