first off, if you take photos of your art, make sure you have good lighting. half of this redline was spent fiddling with the magic wand tool and brightness/contrast so i could see what i was doing.

second, your facial features all migrated away from the center of the face. don't do that. the center of the face is not a huge blank space - it is small and filled with things like the corners of the eyes, the top of the nose, the beginnings of the eyebrows, etc. your hairline is also way too high - she's either balding or wearing a very badly-placed wig.

the eyes go smack dab in the middle of the head, an equal distance from the top of the skull to the bottom of the chin. yes, cartooning involves moving that eyeline up and down, but if you don't know where the eyes are supposed to go in the first place you'll never get a cohesive style going. the nose, no matter how stylized it is, will never be tinier than the pupil of the eye. i understand that large eyes are a stylistic thing, but there are limits - when they make up over half the width of the face, it's time to stop and think about what you're doing.

those lines above the eyes confused me until i realized they were puffy eyelid lines. those don't go that high over the tops of the eyes unless the person is squinting or has a swollen eye. the eyebrows are never straight lines. always give them a curve. there are many emotions to be rendered depending on what sort of curve you give.

you did good giving the hair some volume and not making it completely symmetrical. i'd like you to take a moment and think about hairstyles - if your stylist (or whoever) gave you a fringe that had a huge lock of hair hanging longer than the rest, right in the middle of your face, would you be happy with the cut? or would you demand they even it out? because that is what this poor girl is suffering from at the moment. i realize it's there to fill up the huge empty space between the eyes, but if you use facial real estate properly there's no need for that.

her shoulders are... i don't even know. does she have extreme scoliosis? is she shrugging? did her shoulder get blown off in the war? you drew her face from the front and her torso from what i /think/ is a three quarter pose - ie one that tilts the body. i can understand one shoulder being lower than the other then, because that is how perspective works, but that huge difference is ridiculous. you don't stand with one shoulder next to your ear and one way below, like igor. if that were the case, your upper body would need to be sideways for the shoulders to be on those levels.

somewhat, yes! you did good with having the red be on just one section, but is it the one you want people paying attention to? i'm assuming her face is the focal point. in this case, shouldn't it be her hair that's a bright color, and the background/her shirt that are dull? in addition, skin tone isn't just one flat color. there are reds, blues, and yellows everywhere. i understand that markers don't let you be that painterly, but adding a very light red on the nose and cheeks, then going over that with the skin tone to blend it in works wonders.

anatomy took a bit of a beating here.


the bottom of the skull ends right at the bottom of the ear. the jaw extends beneath that. when drawing people, don't draw hair right away. draw the skull, then draw the line where the hair starts (especially on the forehead), and continue from there.

you keep drawing shoulders hunched up. are your characters very insecure? if not, there's no reason for them to have happy expressions on their faces. if they aren't insecure, you need to stop making them look like turtles retreating into their shells. body language is a huge part of comics, since we can't get good tone/inflection from word ballons, no matter how many words are bolded/italicized.

tits. i'll assume you're female and own some boobs. what do they do when you stand up? do they migrate up toward your collarbone? or do they sink down some, considering their weight? no bra, padded or not, will put tits that high up. boobs start growing from the torso at about the armpits, so their bottoms should always be drawn below the pits, no matter how large (or small). in fact, the larger they are the lower their bottoms will be located, even with bras.

also, curly hair doesn't just curl one way, unless it's been styled and hairsprayed. it's chaotic.

it's kinda hard to tell, but i coloured this with the oil water and water 10 tools. i've only used these kinds of brushes once or twice and god only knows if i'm using them properly or not. if you have a tutorial that you'd like to reccomend, great, go ahead and do it. i just need help with the brush tools.

As much as I love you and your critiques, you changed the position. . . It's not that helpful when they see the position/pose being changed. (That drawing seriously has some shoulder problems though.)

mice don't have fur on their hands n feet, so coloring them brown is a tad weird. the fur at the crotch makes it look like a massive dong is hiding behind it.

the ears are on a flat line when one should be curved back in space since it's on the other side of the head/farther from us. also yeah fatty tail.

i like your line weights. mmm thick lines.

I failed at the drawing in there sorry (just ignore it) ... i was in a rush , and i only has 2 minutes to draw that >.<

First off , its very cute. But, there are some things , Like the eyes, I know your trying to make it as if the hair is covering the eye, but in this picture.. it sorta looks like she doesnt have an eye. so u might wanna add one, or next time you draw.. thats a good thing to have in mind. Also in the backround.. it looks like the tree's are floating in the sky.I dont see a ground, also when dealing with backrounds.. if you placing something like a tree... it should be smaller.. to give it the "far away" effect. Also the punpkin... you should try a 3d effect... because the candy , looks like its actually behind the pumpkin. And , the ears are not in place. first off the ears , shouldnt ontop of the hair, it should be in between.But lastly the blush, or is that lip stick marks? Im not sure, but if its blush.. try using the air brush tool. it helps ALOT it actually makes it look a little more realistic . I hope this helped.. cuz i dont thnk i explained it right >.< BLAH!

i realize chibis are deformed little people, but throwing clothing on a glorified stick figure and calling it done does not a chibi make. you know what a chibi is, at its core? it's a toddler or an infant, with grown up features. that's it, that's the secret.

babies have huge heads, chubby bodies and limbs, large eyes, small noses, and so on. switch babies to chibis and you've got it.
