Complaint About Transformice's Systemic Homophobia |

As an ex-ex-mod, I think I'm in a unique position of opinion, so here I go (tl;dr, there isn't one, so go away): On-topic points 1) This entire thread sounds like people trying to solve world problems in a mice game, just saying. 2) It is my opinion that in a PUBLIC room, players need to understand that what they say they better damn well be comfortable saying around a day-care full of elementary school children and in front of a room full of their extended family/friends' extended family. There are tribe chats and whispers for a reason - if you are that apathetic to the feelings of others whom may be offended by what you say, you need a reality check or just don't live in society, kthx. *steps off soapbox of something that will never change because people are protected by their computer screens* Kind of off-topic, but mentioned above at some point 1) Generalizations don't help any situation: calling the entire staff X or Y based on, yes, isolated incidents (in this specific case 3 out of millions of mutes is pretty damn isolated) is by no means fair. In the context of this thread, let's just also say that all heterosexual people are prudes and all homosexual people are sexual deviants. (/sarcasm for those who couldn't understand that) 2) The admins made a very broad set of rules for the moderation staff to follow 3) Staff members are meant to follow and enforce these rules, but due to their being gray in certain areas, mistakes regarding context are bound to happen 4) There are some staff members whom are only staff members for the power and it disgusts me - unfortunately, welcome to the world. I'm not excusing nor condoning it, simply stating a fact. (and no, I'm not privy to anyone specifically anymore, I just know from my past experiences). 5) Concurrently, there are (or at least I hope there are) more staff on here who are wanting to just help things run smoothly and try to help everyone continue having a fun time 6) I do not believe the admins know what the hell they're doing when it comes to managing this community, nor their staff... this has been obvious to me since I first joined the staff. They do not backup their staff, in fact they usually will take the word of some favo'd regular player over a member of their "trusted" staff. RIP SMods is really the point here. I have been saying for years as a player and as a staff member: This is their game, they can do whatever the hell they wish with it. If they want this place to go Club Penguin or Second Life (trying to think of two opposite spectrum things) they are full within their right to do so. I'm not saying we shouldn't be allowed to voice our opinions (and in the situation of being a staff member, you're often NOT allowed to voice your opinion, or at least were not, without getting demoted or let alone banned by the admins), but in the grand scheme of things, all this energy being spent on something like this could be a giant waste, so just keep that in mind (ironic how I say that as I'm typing all this out, amirite?) Starting to lose my train of thought, but I think I've stated everything that was on my mind. Go ahead and argue my points or tell me my opinions are wrong. It's whatevs :) Post thought, on topic: I love the LGBT+ community... I have a ton of friends and members of my extended family who associate with that group. Personally, I don't see any reason why you have to boast about your sexual orientation. Unprovoked, with a topic such as this that is unfortunately still controversial, that seems like attempts to just start up an argument. Maybe I am just in the wrong circles, but I've never seen, without it meaning to be sarcastic or satirical, any kind of 'straight-pride' or whatever thing. If you identify yourself with a certain group, good on you... we all need to feel part of something... absolutely be proud of who you are. I just don't see the need to have to wave it around in other people's faces. Post Post Thought: I fully agree that bringing up a situation such as this in the form of a new topic on the forums is a hell of a lot better than sending in a complaint to the black hole the admins call the contact form. I have to believe this is truly being discussed among the staff (likely only in EN with very little involvement with the admins), but am confident that if it were just a message dropped in the "Suggestions Box", it would have been lost / ignored as just another player raging about getting a ban/mute. Sigh, quoting a specific section on mobile is such a hassle. I agree with all your points (Tibal), and I've had some unpleasant experiences to support the 6th point |
