You can try searching through your Friends List (click the heart at the bottom left of the chat) for the player that you are trying to find, where you can also see their last login so you can check if they are still active. It is however possible that the player changed their username if you are not able to find them in your friends list.
You can also use the search function to search for that player. On "Search what?" at the top, select "Player" and type in the username of the player that you are trying to find.
