The Problem I've been in many utility rooms where admins are just guessing what map code is what in the list of map codes they have with /lsmap. As a previous avid map maker, I have 64 maps and looking through them to find the tribe map I want is a hassle. Even if you just have 10 maps and you just want to see them all, do you really want to do !map @0000000 10 times? It would be easier to see them all at once in a separate /lsmap tab. Or if you have an embarrassing map (maybe it's poorly made) that you don't want to show you have no way of knowing which code it is until it *oops* loads because you had no idea. In summary
Suggestions #1 Map Image Tab in /lsmap I do like the list of map codes, but I suggest having a tab in /lsmap to be able to see the map codes next to an image of the map. Cheeseformice had a Map Database like this with the code and the image of the entire map. If you've made many maps and are looking for one specific code, /lsmap becomes practically useless. #2 Add Map Images to Forum Profiles Clearly a map database is possible because /lsmap exists and it updates right away. If not in /lsmap, then in forum profiles something like "Maps: 64" that you can click and it lists all map codes with images of the maps. That could be even better because if you're a popular map maker (like Wecwec) then others can enjoy your maps too! |

Seems like a good idea - both the in-game and forum map display suggestions. CheeseForMice displayed perm maps publicly for everyone to see, while non-permed maps were only visible to the user who created them (or only visible to logged-in users, I don't remember exactly). That was done because someone had felt the need to report images of maps with inappropriate contents to Google, who then banned CFM from their ad network, causing the site to lose its revenue. I guess it could be done in a similar way here - making non-perm maps private and inaccessible to others by default, so that players don't have to worry about their potentially embarrassing private maps being shown to everyone; maybe with an option to make a map public. CFM also had an overview of the perm map categories, where one could, for example, see a list of all permed shaman/bootcamp/whatever maps. It would be really nice to have that again.
